Don't thank me for the religious lesson. It wasn't meant to be. I think you and everyone else in the world has to figure out for yourself if you need religion and where to find it. I'm certainly no beacon or teacher for religion and just try to do what I think is right.

I don't doubt what you say is true and as to the despicable things he has done to others, I believe he should have to pay for them NOW, not later. I'm more of a "I'll treat you decent as long as you treat me decent kind of guy" and never saw Jack do the things you and others say. I KNOW he wasn't a saint and he surely had the demons inside of him but he is still a human being. I just figure that there was more to him than just the bad things he did.

In addition to liking two and four legged lizards he was also a very good pool player:)

Jack was a pool player? Come on. I thought everybody was joking about that. :)

This is why AZB is so cool. I never heard of this guy(I grew up in Ireland) but I really enjoyed reading some of your stories about him. I used to think Alex Higgins was the only guy with a real mean streak but he has some company and it seems like Jack had all the talent too, just like old Alex.

Life's Many Mistakes

so was he really world championship caliber? or just below?

Yes, Jack was really "world championship caliber". Again, please understand that his personal choices in life is what kept him from attaining greatness.

I'm sure there are many in this forum that can say they know someone from their life experiences that had the talent, did the hard work to get there, and because of _________________ (you name it) fell flat on their face and never got up.

I believe its not how many times you fall down that counts so much as how many times you get back up. Jack fell many, many times and got up many, many times. However, because he fell down a lot, he did damage to his body and psyche that can never be repaired. He will never reach the level of play he once had because of this. And in this, it is very sad because the Jack Hynes I once knew was not only talented in our art of pool but had heart, was kind, loved his Grandmother, and was a true friend to many people here in Toledo.

That Jack Hynes still lives in some of our memories and like a puff of smoke, can still be seen.....but for only seconds at a time.

Well then, what are you waiting for lad?
Bring out old Higgins dirty laundry. It needs some airing out and AZ is the place to do it.

But please start a new thread. Jack's already got too many credits. :)

Just an update for you guys, Jack is here in town and trying to stay clean. He carries around an old picture of himself to remind him of what he was and all that he doesn't want to become again. He has no problem admitting his drug problem to anyone, nor would he deny the things he's done...but at least he's trying to better himself now.

Jack really is a nice guy, and anyone who thinks he isn't still a world beater...come try him. He's still got it...

Tell Jack that there are a lot of people hoping and a-praying for him.

It is one day at a time and one moment at a time. There are many of us pulling for him to stay clean.

Keep us posted as to Jack's journey.
Thanks!

That's What I'm Known For.........Keeping A Secret

JoeyA said:
After he had eaten I asked him if he could show me a pool secret that no one else knew and he said he could and he would.
He showed me something important that I have never read in a book or seen discussed by any pool player or teacher. It was valuable and still serves me today. I have only shared the secret with one person in all these years.

Joey Aguzin

I never really thanked you for telling me that secret, but I have to admit that I didn't ever get around to wearing silk panties with lots of baby powder in them during a tournament.

I just couldn't find a pair in 60XXXX. :)

Doug
( However, your secret of taking a long nap pre-match in a bathtub full of warm Green Tea with ginsing & honey worked great (adding marshmellows was my own little wrinkle )

*Edited to add: I couldn't find a Jack Hines or a Jack Hynes listed in any newspaper obituaries through www.Legacy.com or through the Social Security Death Index (I know SS is a longshot with poolplayers). Perhaps his demise is simply a rumor.

**Re-Edited to add: I'd already posted this before I realized that I was reading a six month old thread. go figure... dammit !
