Don McCoy taught Scott 1-P, for what that is worth.
Don's not playing now, but I'd bet he'd do a lesson for a nominal sum. He's in Fort Collins but moving to AZ and CA. Good luck catching him.

I enjoyed it very much. Would like to see them play on a 9 footer though and all those top guys playing. I guess there is going to be a $10,000 entry one pocket soon which should be very exciting.
I would just like to stress that Ronnie Allen was well past his prime when Scott played him.
Alex gave Ronnie the last 5 at 9-ball before that and won handily.
....Ronnie did not age well because of his hard life style...."for me, the jury is still out on
whether Ronnie or Efren was the greatest ever.
And the Efren that may need weight now is not the prime Efren either.
This is not to detract from Scott....but I think the time element should be mentioned.
That is for sure, some people age better and keep playing well while others do not.
I'm watching a match right now, and something happened that made me remember this post.
It's the 2004 SF of the DCC 1Pocket with Efren and Marquez. In game 3, Efren breaks. DD suggests that Marquez kick 4 rails, and that's exactly what he does.

I played Ronnie one pocket on a 5/10 when I didn't think anyone could win and he got me stuck for the first hour (we ended up breaking even and he quit). Even though he wasn't in his "prime" he still showed some impressive abilities to come with the long, tough shots - my sources tell me that Ronnie and Cliff Joyner played about the same speed in both of their "primes".
As far as him keeping up with Efren? I seriously doubt if he ever saw anyone play the style and speed of Efren (on a 9' table), however, he may have had a chance on a 10' table. I tried to play Efren on the 10' table in Dallas and he declined.....it's a vastly different game is the only reason. 'The Game is the Teacher'

The man played in Mobile. About 6 foot 5 and a monster. Brainiac. He actually had a system that little Joe learned from reading his notes. Beat everyone. Had a freak accident and it screwed with his head and back and now he can't tolerate people. Joe was going to his house to play a little.
Joe has offered to take a week with me but I haven't had time. I remember him telling me about the notebook. Joe used to go on the road with my father and Allen Keel.
Isn't there a kid out of St. Louis beating everyone these days. Heard Frost won't get up.

I agree, the teacher is not only one that knows how to teach or full of knowledge, but one who you would lovingly pay to watch his matches or even when he practices, or every time he steps up to a table, or even no table, and wish he would win all the time, one that all streamers hope he would be on a stream table, and the stream does not choke! or lags, IMO no one has this characteristics more than the magician Efren Bata R..Especially one pocket..
I think u r right on with top picks. Jones seems to play well in big matches. Maybe slightly underrated. Where is gabe btw? He is also very tough

Yeah, "Otis" was backing him, and again, I "learned" one pocket over a solid year of playing TR, Lizard, Richie R., and Wade - it does take me 3 weeks to tune up if I haven't been playing the game though.....unlike most "one pocket players" I didn't grow up playing, and really didn't take it that seriously until I was in my 30s.
Coincidentally I just got off the phone with my friend Otis, who is one of the all time great "stake horses" and gentlemen from Dallas Texas. Otis went with me to Sweden one year to the World Championships, Larry Liscotti was also there and we had a heck of a time. I rented a car and couldn't read any street signs, talk about a "drive of faith".

I met Otis at the Derby one year when it was in Louisville. A great gentleman. He offered to sell me Cliff Joyner IOU's for 50 cents on the dollar. And then just laughed!!
Lucky you to be in Sweden with Larry and Otis. But some people will hate on you for that too.
I am not sure if Gabe is still playing, I would put Chohan in there too but he is locked up. Maybe they both will be back on the table, plenty of years still left in these guys.
That is one thing i DON"T like about his game. He makes balls though. But that "STILL" thing he does with his stroke is weird. I don't see "Practice" strokes used to judge how hard he hits the ball. He STOPS everything and just hits it. If he had Earl Strickland's stroke or swing he would be a real nightmare on the pool table. He had that "Still" thing for a long time or is it new??? I played him a few years back and I don't remember it. But, watched a few of his more recent matches and bonus ball and it is VERY pronounced.
