As this week is obviously a time for new ideas... here is mine:
Everyone likes to discuss who is the best player at this game or that game. Everyone complains that anyone can win in a short race format. Players like to match up to have a true test of their abilities and to win alot more cash. Would a tournament work that played a long race format or ahead set with a large entry fee.
My thoughts would be for all the bar table monsters to put up at least $2,000 each and play single elimination 12 ahead sets or races to 50. I know this could take days, but the winner could net over $30,000 and truely prove to be the best. Another option would be to award the winner of each set $1,000, essentially making each set worthwhile. The remaining $1,000 from each eliminated player would then be added to the final winner-take-all pot.
This doesn't seem like an outlandish proposition for a backer or player if they truly believe they are the best. I know this could take a very long time, but the side action could be tremendous and by paying the winner of each set, there would be money to cover their traveling expenses.
