Who is your favorite long shot to take the title? I say Ronnie Alcano, he got game, but he'd better be shooting straight to take the win.

Pagualyan won last year and Manalo tied for fifth, so they don't qualify as dark horses. Obviously, Ronnie Alcano does.

My dark horses are Mike Davis and Shawn Putnam.

so you consider him a dark horse

Hell I am not really sure how one could see Alcano as a darkhorse or Manalo either for that matter due to recent tournaments. I would say after the tourney Alcano won he is not really definable as a "darkhorse" and neither is Manalo after his trip to and success in the USA.

A true darkhorse is someone who comes out of the blue and noone sees comming. I dont think Alcano or Manalo are going to be under the radar, Pagulayan's name coming up I will say must have been a lame joke for the benefit of JoeyInCali.

John Schmidt I think may qualify as a darkhorse, although his sands victory makes even him questionable. He has the skills to do it but he is more of a gambler then a tourney player. He would definately shock the world if he won but if he pulled out his A game then there is a chance. I wonder how Alain Martel is playing atm, he made 3rd one year so not really a darkhorse pick but I doubt too many people are looking at him as a threat.

I can't really think of any contender that is totally unknown. Dark horse from Taiwan, Fu and Kuo (although he beat strickland last year). Dark horse from N. America, Alain Martel. Dark horse from Europe, Rachowsky.

Imran Majid - Knocked out in the Round of 16 last year and he has been playing more internationally over the past year. He could be this year's Manalo.

A second choice would have been Tony Robles, but it appears he is not going this year.

I know this guy is not a dark horse but I could feasibly see either thorsten hohmann (my personal pick) win it again or neils feijen to steal it cos quite frankly I am sick of alex pagulayan he is never off the tv whether it be poker or pool, I hope he goes out PDQ.

Alain Martel has a break that's strong enough to carry him deep in the tournament but is in a very tough group.

My darkhorse pick is Hui Kai Hsia!

I don't believe having a measure of credibility on the international pool scene disqualifies somone as being considered a darkhorse. Yes, Ronnie Alcano won a leg of the San Miguel Tour recently, but I still believe that if he won the title it would be considered a surprise.

Konstantin Stepanov seems to be a top tier player also, perhaps this is his year?

I like Jeong Young Hwa or Park Shin Young.

I saw the match with Shin Young Park where he drilled Alex Lely in the 2003 WPC, he ran the last 6 or 7 racks to win the match. The last game he made an incredible cut on the 2 ball to run a tough rack and win. He is one of my favorites although I don't see much of him.

Alan Rolon, (Group 1) from Puerto Rico, if we can get him there.
