Who made this cue?

Ok ok, it's Dufferin. Not your father's Dufferin. Couple years ago a company here bought the equipment and the brand name from Dufferin in Canada. Now they are making cues under the Dufferin name.

The guess of Universal was partially correct. The maker of this cue is TaiCan who also makes Universal branded cues.

In the battle of the Chinese Factory Cues I am pretty much a Fury man through and through because I am intimately familiar with their production and methods.

But I have to give credit where credit is due and say that this cue looks great and more importantly it freaking HITS great. If it had no logo then I am certain that it could pass for the work of a lot of well known makers based on both the hit and the workmanship.

LOL! We were right!

Of course, we didn't get the brand name right....

That's a really sweet example. It looks like they are doing a good job of carrying on a great name in cues, regardless of how some might feel about the source of the cues.

Would you happen to know if the black wood is real ebony or is it just stained maple?

It's real ebony. But having said that wood that is made to look like ebony, called simply "ebonizing" is not normally maple. Generally it's rosewood or some other wood with a grain pattern similar to ebony. That is IF I remember the information correctly from the wood books I bought so many years ago.

Both TaiCan and Kao Kao, the two leading production makers in China have production methods that are essentially like small cue makers but supersized. I know KaoKao (Fury) best because they are five min from me and I have seen the transformation over the past six years.

Also they have traded engineers and "secrets" due to employee poaching back and forth. So I bet there isn't much that one does or knows that the other one doesn't. As well they have both been helped tremendously by many well known cue makers.

The verdicts already out, it's from china ;)

:-) How about we dispense with the country classifications? It's from TaiCan - Dufferin brand.

But it COULD have been made by any of the cue makers listed in my opinion.
