Who Made This Cue?

how do you figure?? you guessed Bob Runde, which incidentally Bob wasn't even in my thoughts. looked nothing like his prong work to me at all. the only reason i didn't really "commit" to my guess was because of the bumper. that sort of splice and 3 inch sleeve could have been done by so many as well them copy the classic joint collar design from G.S and B.S. if i knew the cue didn't have an original bumper than i would have committed to G.S. without hesitation cause it's pretty common for other makers to get certain aspects of their "inspiration" close but be so far off on others. .....anyway you can have the accolades if you think you deserve them...........

skins ------------- wishes his post was one post earlier............:)

i didnt think it was that easy. szam was my first guess. i know gus' rings when i see em. i knew the bumper wasnt original

if you noticed i used CAPS when i wrote gus or barry

bob does alot of 8 point cues. very ealry maybe i thought there was a catch somehow

its cool you can have the "accolades" even though u were the second person to say the maker,

2nd wins usually i guess if i posted 15 mins before you instead of 11 mins i would have been able to take credit :D

how did you know the bumper wasn't original???....you would have had to know who made the cue for that. many makers position their bumpers far out of the cap. you obviously didn't know the cue before you posted or you wouldn't have guessed Runde so you saying you knew the bumper wasn't original is a little bold if you ask me. as for Bob's eight pointers, sure he's done allot of them, but none of his prongs look like that as well he doesn't do ring work like that. as far as knowing Gus's rings when you see them, sure the "style" of Szam rings is very popular amongst many makers over the years. now couple that to the fact that there are very few, could be as low as 3 or 4 veneered eight pointers ever seen let alone made, that to think Gus S. on this cue just from the ring work and then guess Runde would seem a little awry.

skins ------------ takes back his previous wish and knows he was "on to it" first. ;) :)

correct sir. i just read your mind 11 mins proir to you posting.

but you win

notice i didnt edit my post and i guess the CAPS were done on accident

never seen a maker place a bumper out that far. including myself

as far as the rings for i was talking about the black phenolic part and the stiching you can se in that old black

2nd place is good dont be so mad :D :D :D

Barry has yet to make an 8-point veneered cue. I keep bugging him, but no luck. So far.

Barbara

Hi Barbara,

Good. Now I know what to ask for when my number comes up at the turn-of-the-century. ;)

It was kind of unusual to see a high/low pointed Gus without a lot of inlays.

WELL FOLKS, IT'S A ONE OWNER ULTRA RARE VENEERED 8 POINT
GUS SZAMBOTI. BOUGHT BACK IN 77/78. IT'S THE RAREST GUS VARIATION THAT THERE IS. IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY, PURCHASE PRICE FROM GUS WAS $185.00

IT IS FOR SALE, BUT FOR CONSIDERABLY MORE THAN THE ORIGINAL PRICE TAG. I NEED TO HAVE CONFIRMATION FROM A BUYER BY SATAURDAY, IF THEY WANT THE CUE, OR IT'S GOING AWAY AGAIN FOR A LONG TIME, PROBABLY TO NEVER BE SEEN AGAIN. SERIOUS BUYERS CAN FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME FOR MORE INFORMATION, AND IF WE CAN GET A GROUP OF GUYS TOGETHER TO BUY STOCK IN THIS CUE, I THINK IT WOULD BE A WISE INVESTMENT.

P.S. YES IT HAS BEEN FULLY VERIFIED BY BARRY. IT WAS IN HIS SHOP LAST WEEKEND.

P.S.S. FOR OU GUYS THAT KNEW THE BUMPER DIDN'T LOOK RIGHT, GOOD JOB. WHEN THE CUE WAS REFINISHED THE ORIGINAL BUMPER WAS LOST.

I'm glad you had it verified Marcus. I was concerned it might be a Duc Lam blank built by Carolina Cues:rolleyes:

Did the cue sell??

I CHOSE TO NOT BROKER THE DEAL. THINGS CAME TO LIGHT, THAT I DID NOT KNOW UP FRONT, AND I WALKED AWAY FROM THE DEAL.

IT WAS STILL NICE TO GET TO HOLD A CUE AS RARE AS THIS ONE.
