im in the market for a good sneaky pete. was just wondering which company, production or custom, makes a good one and why? thanks

Oh sweet mercy, this is a helluva question, lol. I love a good Scruggs sneaky, or a Joss sneaky, Frey sneaky, Runde sneaky, Keith sneaky, Varney sneaky, those TNT sneakys KOINNKID has for sale look good, etc....Man you cant go wrong with most any of em. I love em all. You gotta be a little more selective though. What weight? Stiff hit? What pin? What ferrule? You've got a lot of deciding to do my friend, lol. Good luck with your search.

I guess it depends on what you are after. A true sneaky is just a house cue cut into 2 pieces with a screw installed.

If that is the case than anyone can do it with a saw, a lathe, drill etc.

Then there is the custom version that is like a plain jane. Custom made butt and shaft with quality ferrule, tip and etc.

If you want to draw some action than get a cheap butt that has the decals of a race driver, football team etc and have a custom shaft added to it.

No one is ever fooled by a sneaky.

All of the above mentioned are good. Also try:

Both are quality. Schmelke makes their own full splice blanks and Scot uses Titlist on some.

like others have said - lots to choose from. I like Diveney's butterfly sneakies (particularly those with the G10 pin). Jacoby makes them with just about ANY joint configuration (piloted 5/16x14, 3/8x10, radial, etc.), so they give you a wide range of options (plus, I recommend their cues to any and everyone).

SO many to choose from, good luck in your search. :D

I think Dufferin makes very good 1 piece house cues, so their two piece sneaky pete (aka phantom or DF-11) should be equally good.

thanks. i will do a little research on those and let ya know if i can decide. I know its kinda a general question for now..just wanted to be pointed any direction. thanks again guys

You can't go wrong with any of the following:

Kieth Josey
Pat Diveney
Cory Barnhart
Bob Frey
Tim Scruggs

My personal preference would be a Barnhart with a micarta ferrule and a Kamui Black tip.

Joss has a great line of SP that are not directly distributed
also look for any of these : Huebler : they used to make a very nice playing SP

Are you looking for a plain jane, which is really what most people around here call a sneaky pete, or a real sneaky pete that doesn't have any ringwork/visible joints/etc? Only a few true SP's make their way onto this board. One of my favorites, that I only got to use for a very short time, was one of PoolFool1957's sticks. It hit well and was incredibly discreet. The one time I took it to the local pool hall, nobody knew I was using anything other than a house stick, until I broke it down.

I have a Scruggs and a Mark Bear Sneaky Pete; unfortunately Scruggs no longer makes them, but they both are great cues.

I have heard a lot of good things regarding Bob Frey's Sneakey Petes and I just ordered one of his but won't get it for a couple of more weeks.

Bob Frey

If you have $450, buy a Bob Frey. I think Tim Scruggs sneakies hit the best but he no longer makes them and good used ones are normally beaten up and overpriced (IMO). Bob Frey used to make cues with Scruggs and his sneakies with the 5/16x14 joint hit as close to an old Scruggs as possible.

sneaky petes

I played with all kinds of cues and I got hooked on the scruggs SP, they are the best, I have 2 SP 1 for breaking and shooting and custom made jump cue. I bought these direct from the original owner who was somewhat retiring from pool. If you can find one, you will never go back to anything else.

See my avatar, those my scruggs forever!!!!

Are you kidding?

The question is "Who does not make a good SP".

I just bought a "Sneaky Pete" and it is stamped on the cue, from Carlscues on EBay for $34 for student. It is full splice, straight and comes with a "moori-like" tip which aint bad. Shoots good.

Caveat Emptor.

On the other hand I shoot with a custom SP from Raven Cues, coco and curly, G-10 joint, pro taper with pink ivory inlay which came in at around $600.

So.....take your pick and shovel.
