Who Makes a Great Standard Maple Shaft For a Decent Price?

I'm in need of a standard maple shaft. I don't like any of the high tech low-deflection shafts. I'm looking for someone who can make me a high-quality maple shaft with matching ringwork for a decent price. Any suggestions? Should I just find an old house cue that's straight and have a cuemaker chop it in half?

McDermott ...

Bill Dominiak will make you a great shaft www.DominiakCues.com , I play with his straight maple myself and I am like you, I really like the solid shaft. I think his solid shaft is like $60 or $70 before any custom ring work. They play great.

KJ of KJ Custom Cues can build a very good shaft for you. Send him a PM and let him know exactly what you need

I can. $90 with matching ringwork, diameter, taper, ferrule, and tip of your choice. Straight grain, hard rock, maple.

Mike Erwin of Erwin cues. He can do one with matching ring work for 90.00. Mike was Bob Meuccis righthand man at Meucci cues back in their heyday! Back when they played as good as they looked.

I've heard from one of the top players where I play, that Josey makes a good shaft.

i'll second this. bill makes a nice solid cue and he supplies shaft stock to a lot of makers. might just as well cut out the middle man. great guy to work with.

Josey / Diveney / Dayton / Putnam There are many great cue makers that are turning out some very nice playing shafts . I personally have heard a ton of good things about Paul Dayton shafts and had a chance to play with a few and the hype of Dayton shafts lived up to my expectations .

Hope this helps

KJ is one of the most reasonable cue makers for shaft work in business today. I'd recommend him and he's doing a SW shaft for me now.

Rick Howard

I would call Rick Howard. I really like his taper. He does great work and is a high level player as well.

I'm also looking for some high quality shafts as well but the ones I need I'll put in the inserts, collars/ringwork, ferrules/tips myself.

I'm leaning real hard in trying the shafts that Prather has in the #2 grade and @ low $20's per shaft for that grade wouldn't that be hard to beat?

Good Price

Good price with the ring work & custom specs included.

This is who I get my shafts from.

I would try Bryan Mordt of BCM cues. His website:

I believe his prices are reasonable and I think he could build you a quality maple shaft. I've had him do some work for me on my Tad and I would trust him to give you a quality shaft. He posts on here as "BryanMordt".

I second that! I don't need an extra shaft right now but I'm debating taking this great deal if it's for everyone. They usually go for $130 with limited spec's. He's already done great work for me, great deal Ryan. Is this deal good for anyone? Ron
