Who makes the best low deflextion shaft??? Custom, production I don't care. I just want opinions. I have a Joss, with a 314 and moori tip.

I like the play, but the hit seems a little hollow. I tried a Z shaft, and the hit was better, but I didn't hit enough to see the low deflextion of the cue.

And I want to find out more about the new 314 2 and the Z 2, from people who use them not the maker like predator.

Thanks for any and all input...

IMO, OB Cues ( www.obcues.com ) makes the best low deflection shaft, the OB-1. If you want great feel and great performance then look no further. I played with a Predator shaft for almost 10 years and switched to the OB-1 early this year and love it.

You also asked about more information on the 314 2 and Z 2, you can read the difference between the 2nd generation and 1st generation here:
http://www.platinumbilliards.com/product_info.php?cPath=21_28_71&products_id=1002775

If you are interested, you can purchase an OB-1 here:

Let me know if you have any other questions.

the hit feels hollow because the ferrule is hollow.............try an ob-1........a little less deflection than predator with a solid feel

Saying nothing about the amount of low squirt..

I think both the OB-1 and the Universal SmartShaft Low Deflection have excellent feel in addition to their advertised lower squirt characteristics.

The Schuler SQ (low squirt) is also an excellent feeling low squirt shaft, but it's built for Schuler cues only. I think getting it in the 12 3/4 diameter is going to get squirt characteristics on par with Predator 314.

Seriously...if you have a perfect & straight Meucci red dot sneaky pete....I can take it, change the pin, change the shaft insert to phen. or wood, change the ferrule, and tip. Then move the balance weight bolts that are screwed into the butt....and FINALLY you have a cue that will play as good as any cue in the world.;)

OK, how much, and how long will it take???;)

don't laugh at me you snobs!!!:D..seriously, Lucasi has an 8 pc radial design shaft that plays Very nicely. I have used most "tech" shafts, and the Lucasi plays between the Predator 314, and the standard tight grain "non tech" shafts. For me, it is a nice medium at $208 for the LE 27 model.

I think that the new Tiger shaft should be brought in to this as well. I have used it for a while now and it has a good feel along with the low deflection.
I usually say low deflection shafts take some of the feeling away but, I didn't notice any loss of feeling with the new Tiger shaft. Like has been said in this thread. I have always said they felt hollow or they feel springy. This new one hit's like a ton of bricks. It's solid, like a very dence shaft but, without the front end weight. I like this price as well. It also comes with the right kind of tip and farrel combo for me. These are the people that do all my stick work. I have still never had a tip pop off. You can see the types of shots I shoot on my website, this is just more proof to back them up. They are the best and what they do. You can choose to not take my word for it but, take a look at the list of supporters for Tiger products. It might be the longest list in billiards. These people are making billiards a better game with every addition they make to the sport.

You supply the cue....$200 & 2 weeks....thats the deal of the year...and I'll even throw in joint collars to spice it a bit.;)

Do you have a website, Mr. Varney Cues? While Google has heard of you, a website is not showing up. Would like to see some pictures of cues and also hear more about this "jump/break with lifetime tip/ferrule warranty that will jump entire ball from less than 1 inch away". Would also like to know if it'll perform as advertised if I'm holding it!

Schuler SQ??

Fred, what is the Schuler SQ? I don't see it on the Schuler website. If it's new, how do you think it compares squirtwise to a European or Super Constant taper?

I have a predator Z2 shaft. I can honestly say that I feel no difference between it and the solid maple shaft that came with my cue. I can't really tell if the deflection is any less. I play well with it. I like the taper and the small tip.

This chart http://www.platinumbilliards.com/rating_deflect.php does not cover a 314-2 or Z-2 but it covers other major shafts and from what i have seen i think the Z is the best going i just shoot straight even with tons of english on the rock as people who know me will back up.

Maybe i prefer this shaft due to the taper as i used to play snooker and english pool (small ball reds yellows pool like Darren Appleton of IPT fame) and after trying 314 314-2 mcdermott i-2 i-3 the only shaft for me is a Z with a sniper tip, and yes i do believe that tip type and shape will alter deflection.

Also as well i feel that butt type affects deflection as i have used full predator cues before and without doubt my mcdermott rs-12 masterpiece joint deflects less with the same type of shaft with a fantastic hit.

I have played with "The Diamond's" Szamboti with a 314-2 and that had a wonderful hit too but i prefer the stiff hit of Z shaft......mmmmmm dream cue now a szamboti with a Z but hey never mind maybe next lifetime. LOL

My taste?

I use a jermey jones schuler cue with an american 28.25 in shaft with a 13mm tip. I love running out on my refurbished 5 by 10 with shimed pockets. So the american is good for nine ball and with the custom schuler joint my hit never feels hollow, it always seems very solid and controlable. You can look at their cues and shafts at www.schulercue.com. They are located in Palatine Illinois. I have noticed everyone has been talking about this 0B1 shaft. I might have to try it out. Do they custom make for any cue or only select cues they have chosen to deal with. Anyways schuler is an incredible stick for any avid pool player. If your a beginner go by a fifty dollar stick and learn before you spend alot of money! Your either a lion or a lamb. YOUR CHOICE! IM A LION! If anybody's in little rock, AR. every Im ready to play.
