Who were some of the best women playing for the cheese

"Detroit" Carla wasn't (isn't?) too shabby. Though not a top player she was a smart gambler and took down Aileen Pippin, Kristie Carter, and numerous others with a spot.

Jennifer Chen/HelenaThornfeldt/myself and Jeanette have to be in my opinion the best all around gamblers. All around meaning smart as well as played good for the chedder. Jennifer has played the strongest for the most amount that I have seen. We'r talkin $500 on the 5 and $1000 on the nine action. If u make the nine before the game is over on a combo it will spot back up to be shot again on the run out. Eileen was a good one too. Kristie and Holly had a lot of nerve but got busted often. Mostly by Eillean and J.Chen or myself. Ahhh those were the days wish I could get some fun games goin again.

I agree on you, Helena, and Jennifer Chen....only because I have never been blessed to see Jeanette gamble:)

It's harder to find women gambling against each other...most of the time they take offense to it or something, IMO...never could understand that?? But I would think women would "prefer" to play against each other because the match ups are better and more even.....but yeah most women can be very catty about the whole thing. In that sense their pride gets more in the way than with men when they gamble. I think that's why even when I was playing I was "scared" to ask other girls to gamble...I didn't want to make enemies, I just wanted to get/give good action. But even just the mention of it, most women seemed almost threatened, like I wanted to fight or something....lol!!!

I believe that game Monica played with the other women was called Kentucky nine ball...maybe KY-9 ball has more money balls, I forget. The most I ever played for in that game was $10 on the five $20 on the 9. I don't ever remember seeing anyone playing for more. Has anyone else ever seen 50 and 100 even.

At 500 and 1000 you can be down $10,000 in an hour or so with bad rolls and not getting any shots. Talk about betting it up...geeeeeeez. Johnnyt

Monica,

To say Holly and I got busted often is simply ridiculous and misinformed.

Holly and I played Aileen and Jennifer twice. The first time Holly lost and neither Aileen or Jennifer were willing to adjust so the game ended -- we didn't get busted. The second time we arranged a doubles match against them getting the 8. We weren't the favorite in that match either, but Aileen and Jennifer always had the best when matching up and we wanted action. Holly and I were fortunate to win the first set. Then during the second set Jennifer claimed she had to catch a flight, an argument ensued, and you'll never convince me that it wasn't a move to unsettle us. It worked and we lost the set, breaking even, and I vowed to never play either one of them again.

As far as you busting me or Holly. That would be impossible seeing as neither of us ever gambled against you. You might recall me offering you the 8 on a bar box in Dallas or offering to play me 8-ball any time. But you declined. How sweet of you! I can only assume you were being generous to me at the time. ;-)

I think I smell the next women's TAR match up.

Please don't get your hopes up. I haven't played pool competitively since 2000 and would be no match for Monica now.

My intent was to clear up the misconceptions. :-)

Not only is Kristi one beautiful gal, but she was an excellent pool player once upon a time. She was probably the best prospect to come out of S. Cal. in the last 10-15 years. Along with Melissa Herndon, who came after her. And Kristi was never afraid to play for something either. She had a lot of gamble from a young age.

It's nice to see her back around the WPBA Tour and I for one would love to see her play again. She's still young and has a pretty good sparring partner too.

In a TAR format race to 100 I will bet $10,000 on Kelly Fisher against any other woman on Earth.

Kelly doesn't really gamble much and certainly isn't a contender for biggest female action player. However, I have faith that she will overcome any other player alive in this format.

Rachel Abbink gets my vote though for biggest action hound. Once in a WPBA event she was warned that she wasn't allowed to gamble during the event. She asked what the fine was and was told $5000. Her reply was, "well I guess that means I have to bet $20,000 then".

I have heard that Jennifer Chen took off a $30,000 score in Hawaii.

Kristi Carter: I bet you could still play pretty sporty if you cared to get back in the box.

I was gonna fade half your action then i remembered id be bucking 2-1 odds meaning id wind up paying all the losees and collecting only half the winnings so as the saner parts of my brain come alive, ill just say 'nevermind'.

Don't worry about it. This is one of those "will never happen" matches. If it did then I am sure the other side would want to put up more in side action.

I personally think that there are only three or four women on the planet who have a shot against Kelly in this format.

And even then it's not a 50/50 shot in my opinion. However since their "record" is better they can played even for even odds.

But who knows? That's why they call it gambling.

Yup, Jennifer did come to Hawaii a while back and make a good score...somewhere around your figure, can't remember exact number. She was fierce, and even tho she was getting a spot in most of the games...she played really steady. I played back then but was only about a strong C class player...it's one of the memories I have that made me wanna get better. I thought it would be so cool if I got just as good so when she comes to Hawaii, or any girl for that matter, there would be a girl they could match up against. But, she came back one more time after her big score and basically lost a every game she got into and then some. She mainly lost to one guy, Danny, he just shot lights out even tho he was spotting her...and I think they agreed to play some more with an adjustment but Jennifer didn't have anymore cash and the room owner wasn't willing to cash a personal check for her since it was from a foreign account. Anywho, it went down something like that (to my recollection), then I don't recall Jennifer ever coming back??

I know Monica and Helena stopped by a couple of times on their way to Asia, but it's hard for them to get games that are worth something because everyone knows and likes them..lol!!

I remember Monica, Helena and Jennifer coming down to Phoenix after one of the last WPBA tour stops in Prescott, AZ. and gambling with the guys there. Nice little sports car Jennifer had.

For the money and the intimidation, she (Lori Shampo)was a female CornBreadRed, only much better looking. I had a serious case of the hots for her.

I was living in Oak Park, Il in the late 70's until Nov 80. Lori was put in the King & I in Cicero and guys were jumping through hoops to play her. Don't remember any of em liking it. LMAO! My girl even wanted to learn how to play after this.

Do the women players here find that if someone plays pool good, they go up a ball in attractiveness? I know for me its a yes and if the girl also gambles good at pool its more like 2balls. Rachel A was down here in Miami a while back and watching her woof at the guys made me chuckle but also kinda turned me on. ok im done making my little confession...back to work
