Chances are Efren's nemesis is under 30 and will start beating him consistantly in 8 to 10 years;)

The guy could be 30 now but you are basically correct, ribdoner. I would say more like 5-7 years down the road but it could be as much as 10 and I don't see him coming from the U.S. I see one of the straight shooters from the far east falling in love with the game and one day wondering if he could have beaten Efren in his hayday.

Best prospect I see is Dennis Orcullo once he learns the game. His cue ball control and shotmaking is awesome. I give him 3-4 years to get up to Efren's speed, maybe less.

!!!!!!!!!

I agree with Ribdoner an his first name is Nick an probably more like 3 to 5 years!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would think Joyner is my 1st choice, of course it could be;
Chohan
Frost or
Deuel

That all depends on how well Orcullo plays chess, IMO. Efren is by far and away the most intelligent player the game has seen, which seems to be the general consensus of the majority of players and fans. The man is a genius, and his creativity is unsurpassed. When Efren gets in dead punch, I think that he is untouchable in 1-pocket. The last two Derby City Classics proved that. He steamrolled thru players that were playing PERFECT! The way Alex Pagulayan was playing agaisnt Efren in the '06 DCC, I can't think of anyone that could have beaten him, except Efren!

I also forgot to mention, I like Alex over Corey in 1-hole. But I like Joyner over both of them. Joyner is incredible, but he seems to be a streaky player. He's either off or on, so it's a gamble. Alex is a bit more consistent in playing his 'A' game, IMO.

I agree

The way Alex played against Efren was fantastic. Had he played like that without Efren there he would have easily romped to victory himself. Watching them play reminded me of Alydar and Affirmed. Almost any other year and Alydar would have won the triple crown. That year and he had three seconds to show.

I also agree with several other posters about who will beat Efren, Grandfather Time. That is the only one he can't outrun.

Hey Pinocchio, if the Nick you're talking about is Nick Vita, then I don't think your nose got any bigger after this post ^_^...... I was gonna name him myself but you beat me to it.........................Ghost

Next Best

T-Rex is in his 20's & Cliff may be the only American player that is a clear favorite over him. I haven't had a chance to see Corey Duel's one pocket game, but if it is a U. S. player somewhere down the road, it is probably one of these two. John Henderson

Among the Filipino players, it's Ronnie Alcano who plays Chess a lot. My dad told me Efren and him played a pickup chess game (for money I think) in-between matches in the World 8-ball Champs in Fujairah. Though I once heard he doesn't really have much desire to learn 1-hole.

Roberto Gomez (a stablemate of Alcano and Orcullo) confessed to us once that it takes a hell of a lot of patience to learn the game so the other Filipinos don't really bother much.

I have a feeling Corteza and Orcullo are the ones who really want to take down Efren in the DCC.

I get to watch Joyner shoot just about everyday.I can't think of any American player that can shoot Joyner even.Who do you like playing him even other then Efren...

Just as long...

landon shuffet perhaps... of course efren will be playing via hoveround.

As he isn't singing, 'You made me love you' or 'I get around' as he
scoots around the table in his hoverround ..... ROFL .....

If the Aging factor is not put into consideration, the only way to beat Efren is giving some weight to his opponents. Even Corey needed some weight just to beat Efren. but in an even match, I can't think of any.

Is Frost American?

Has Frost booked a win playing Joyner even...I don't know but I can ask Cliff later.
I know Corey beat Cliff at the DCC getting weight...
