Who will win? Earl Strickland vs Efren Reyes January 14-16, 2014

Earl was born 8 June 1961. I share the same birth month and day, but will be 61 next birthday. I pick Earl in this match.

My dad share the same month day and year with Efren Reyes, that is 26th of August 1954. How cool is that? :D feels like having efren as ur dad with superpowers lol

"One final thing - I asked Earl about Efren Reyes during our conversation and he said that Efren has, hands down, THE best instincts at the pool table of anyone he has ever played or seen played. Like a 'forward vision' thing..."

Real recognizes real, m pinoy and root for efren but have high respect for the brilliant earl strickland. Sometimes i wish there is a pinoy player as tenacious and explosive as earl on and off the table. This match will be legend.... Wait for it...

No matter who wins....My hats off to both of these players....They will be Icons of this game for many many years to come.

I think Efren is a big favorite in the 8-ball. His one-pocket-style ability to move the cue ball around the table through traffic is awesome and will serve him well in 8-ball (recall the IPT). And he's played on a 10' table before, in the Accustat's Make it Happen event last spring. Shane won, but Efren tied with Alex for second place:

Shane Van Boening 4-1 $4,000
Efren Reyes 3-2 $3,000
Alex Pagulayan 3-2 $3,000
Shannon Daulton 2-3 $2,000
Corey Deuel 2-3 $2,000
Scott Frost 1-4 $1,000

Matchwise, the question is how big an edge, if any, Earl has in 9-ball and 10-ball. Hypothetically, if Efren is 55-45 to win 8-ball, and a 52-48 dog in 9-ball and 10-ball, then Efren is 50.5% to win. Basically, a pick 'em.

Looks to be an awesome match either way.

Cory

Efren just won against Dennis (All-Japan Open). Dennis was behind Efren the entire match.
He lost to Corteza 11-9. Efren definitely still has it.

I will purchase this PPV just as soon as I receive every issue of InsidePool magazine they should have sent me.

Is there anyone who will be buying the PPV and didn't receive their paid subscriptions? At what point should someone support the stream after getting ripped off?

You make a very good point, I know I will not renew. It seems to happen a lot, that they fail to meet their obligations with the magazine. As for the payper view I know if they fail to deliver I can dispute the charge on my credit card and they will lose.
I would have to say Earl wins!

I wonder if Earl can enjoy a home-court advantage with the equipment. Then again, Efren adjusts to any equipment, always has.

I was just thinking about this...Earl has home field advantage which I think makes a big difference.

It's something in the air that he is used to breathing.

earl has been playing often and really well lately, and i have not seen as much of efren. i think earl gots this, but you can never underestimate the magician!

Is this going to be offered on DVD or bluray after the fact? Does anybody know?

Earl is 53 now. I wonder how his vision is today, with or without glasses.

I don't think he sees too good close up.

I took a lesson from him a while back and he was struggling to see if two balls were frozen. I had a pair of reading glasses on me and asked him if he wanted to use them. He declined and said something about how bad they are for your eyes. This was right before the match with Shane where he used the magnifying glass to inspect the rack. I think he was using it because he just couldn't see.

These are two of my favorite players to watch over the years but I've got to root for Earl.

The eyesight, seeing closeup, is something that seems to get worse and worse after 50.

Keith and I got our eyes checked out, and we have the same vision numbers. When he reads the Racing Forum today with that size 2 font, he can't read it without glasses.

I can see where looking at the rack, it would be difficult to see the cracks, if any.

Another thing, I wear my glasses for reading and computer all day long, because I work all day long most days. When I take them off, my vision is a wee bit strained sometimes or blurry at a distance. I wonder if that is what Earl is talking about.

Are there any matches available on bluray?

That's a great question, and I'm not sure. I have a bluray player on my main TV in the living room, but my other TVs have DVD players.

I don't think you can play a DVD in a blueray player, but may be I am wrong. I'm technologically handicapped, by my own admission. :o

You can, and it's "supposed" to make the quality a little better, but I don't know for sure.

I just don't think I've ever seen a pool match released in actual bluray format. If there are any, I'd love to know so I can buy.

About three years ago I was told I could wait another five years before I had to have cataract surgery. I said do it now and have no regrets. I wore glasses from the age of 12 and now I no longer wear glasses at all. My vision is actually better than when I was younger. Everything is a little brighter and it took a few months to adjust.

If you are eligible for the surgery, the sooner the better. I got the more expensive IOLs and have no regrets. I read, thread needles, see the computer screen, and most importantly, have no trouble at the pool table. If you get the less expensive IOLs you probably will need reading glasses, so its a choice.

I suspect Efren had something similar and if so, his vision would be great.

At 70 years old my stamina is not what it was five years ago. But my stamina did not seem to begin dropping off until I was 65 or so. I think it is more that one's priorities change after 60 or so and Efren seems to be on his game when he chooses to be.

The Magician rules.

I have received Jan, Feb, Mar, May/June, this year. I always miss a few issues every year, so this is the last year for me. When it runs out, I am done. I have seen a lot of people with the same issue on here.
