Who will win? Earl Strickland vs Efren Reyes January 14-16, 2014

On the 5 x 10 I like Earl to win. I don't remember seeing Efren use a bridge and that will present a challenge on the big table.

Looking forward to watching the stream of that. Two of my favorite players.

My heart says Efren but my mind says Earl has this all day.
Earl has the skills and Efren has the heart. How many games was he down in the race to 120? If Earl gets ahead Efren can still win, if Efren gets ahead, Earl is done. My money is and always will be on Efren.

I expect Earl to win.

It's not only about overall skill and ball pocketing. SVB mentioned that he needed to stretch and reach a lot of awkward shots on the 5x10. Earl plays with a very long cue and can easily reach shots the other players can not.

Now, if someone hands Efren a 70" broomstick, then I may revise my estimate :D

I haven't come across a new Blu-ray player that isn't backwards compatible with DVDs and CD. You should check your model to confirm.

That's a great question, and I'm not sure. I have a bluray player on my main TV in the living room, but my other TVs have DVD players.

I don't think you can play a DVD in a blueray player, but may be I am wrong. I'm technologically handicapped, by my own admission. :o

Who will WIN?

5x10 should be fun.. is this still on?

If Earl keeps it together psychologically, he should definitely win. That is big if though. As somebody stated earlier, if he gets down too much he may self-implode

I think Efren is a big favorite in the 8-ball. His one-pocket-style ability to move the cue ball around the table through traffic is awesome and will serve him well in 8-ball (recall the IPT).

I think efren probably plays 8 ball a shade better than Earl but I can't put him as a favorite.
We had Alex vs. Busty in a TAR match playing 8 ball, and Busty's break made all the difference,
even though alex moves the cue ball well and plays smart.

So if 8b turns into a breaking contest, I like Earl's end of it.
Especially since congestion will be less of a problem on a 10 foot.

In 9b and 10b I have no idea. Race to 15's a little short, rolls may not even out.
I expect a split, possibly Earl taking 9b and Efren taking 10b.

This is devastating, as I'm going to be up in New York for the first time in over a decade from the 21-25th and will be missing this by a hair.

Anyone here involved in this and has contact with the players?

I may take a day of work and a day off for my son to drive up to see this but I'd like to make sure he'll have a chance of meeting Efren. My son and Jayson Shaw share a sponsor and they let Jayson know we'll be there for a tournament, Jayson came up to him to say hi and hung out around us almost the whole tournament, played a few games with my son as well. I'd love to be able to get an introduction to Efren for him, especially seeing how this will probably be over a 6 hour round trip drive for one day for us and who knows when Efren will be around close enough to us to see him.

I'd say Earl has the edge on the big table. I'm thinking Efren takes 8 ball in a close one and Earl takes a 4-5 games spread on 9 ball and 10 ball.

I cant wait for this match up. Hopefully Efren pulls out one last magic in his long prodigious career. I like both players tho, they are legends in their own right. Both indomitable force in the pool world and both whom I have profound respect for. May the best win and may they put on a show as they always do. What they have is a gift of pool wisdom that is so rare to find nowadays. This maybe their last face off and it truly is an honor to see them both in my lifetime.

Earl got to be the Fav. in this match.
Efren just does not break the balls good enough anymore.
Not to mention that playing on a 10' table is Earl's thing.

Competing on an Elite level from here on in Efren needs to stick to 1 pocket.
Efren is in the top 2 or 3 all around players to ever hold a cue stick but age catches up with everyone eventually.

Saw Efren Reyes play a couple months ago on a bar box and he wasn't missing much. I think he'll play great. He's not that old. Don't know why that keeps coming up....
