These questions are specifically for cue builders...at any level. What do you think of these full splice blanks and what do you think of my price for them? would you be interested in pre-ordering these?

1) Classic Ebony full splice: $200 each = $875 for 5 = $1600 for 10
2) Classic Ebony SRC full Splice: $200 each = $875 for 5 = $1600 for 10
3) Classic Ebony Tulipwood full splice: $170 each = $750 for 5 = $1400.00 for 10

These will be limited runs as ebony in 24" are really hard to come by.

Duc.

That center one would be a million seller, a full splice ebony bushka.

If it's pointy and even top and bottom, $200 isn't out of line by much. I'd rather see them more around $150. Custom ones where I pick everything are $300.

The others are pretty specific, and don't do much for me.

I'd much rather see a red over ebony with a space, or a cocobola into birdseye with black white black veneers. Those are more general

full splice cue blanks

deleteDuc I think the price is fair and I would order if the point are even.

i like them duc. the only thing i can say for me is the green veneer you used on the other cues on your site in a little too bright. need to be more lime or moss or both. i think youll sell a bunch if you get that perfect color combo and points are even.

maple instead of tulipwood would be great also

Depends on the quality of the ebony.
If they have grain runouts like those rosewood you have, they won't sell.
Tulipwood is known to twist and turn. That wouldn't interest me being ebony front too.

Like joey said, depends on the quality of the ebony, and the maple. Don't skimp, most of us would pay alittle more, if the wood is guaranteed to be A grade or higher. If I have an order for a fullsplice, I order from MB, and I know the wood is awsome and I don't mind paying more for piece of mind. I know you deal more in volume and order the blanks made, so you don't have 100% control over wood and quality.

Do some ebony w/ flaming/tiger maple forearm and I'll order some. Also why not do a titlist line? titlist color venners in: Ebony, Cocobolo, purpleheart, Rosewood, ect........these might sell very well, if you build these, I will make an order

Also, it's about time you start offering some in higher end woods, like ebony, looks good, either way I'll order 1 or 2 if they become avalible and share my experience with them.

Duc,

Your last run didn't have sharp points at the bottom, which is a deal breaker for me in a Full Splice. Get the bottom points sharp and I would be interested. I also like the Idea of Titlist colors. Get those veneers from Martiin that match perfect.

Titleist veneers, high grade ebony & figured maple, sharp points at both ends.......impossible or at minimum inpractical to do for $200. I agree 100% that the quality should be top notch, especially when it comes to wood seasoning & stability. But don't sell yourself out. Charge appropriately. As I see it, you cannot touch a full splice ebony into figured maple blank with veneers for less than $400. So if you were to charge $350-$375, and were as high quality as the others, then you'd be doing great. Don't give them away.

But you know what, one important thing to remember is some builders cant afford to drop $300-400+ for a blank, and I think that is one thing duc is trying to do, "make fullsplice with venners" avalible to everyone at an affordable price, and as we all know, if you want something for less usualy the quality is less, not knocking ducs product by saying this, for some people a $200 ebony fullsplice would be perfect, and realy fit the bill. So on the other hand, maybe him just doing it on the level he does would be a good thing for some.

So Although I stick by what I said in my post earlier, To answer ducs question: Yes, $200 for an ebony fullsplice would be an exellent price, and I think you would sell quit a few.

But you should still make me 2 with titlist venners, 1 Flaming maple, 1 birdseye:thumbup:

maybe he could offer firsts seconds and thirds and different prices.

i was speaking to another maker. and they used prather as a example. he said jeff may get one perfect full spliced blank out of every 4 or 5. its tough. maybe someone with more experience can chime in

prather makes an ebony blank with veneers under 300$. im scared ive seen great ones and ive seen terrible ones. same with davis. i know makers that wond convert them bc its too much work sometimes. some are perfect and some are real bad. i personally dont want to have hundreds or thousands ties up in sending blanks back and forth until i get one i want

Full spliced blanks require a 24" butt & 18" front. That's a basic guidline for the raw stock. A 24" peice of jet black, kiln dried ebony is gonna cost around $50+. A top grade birdseye or curly 18" square is $15-$40, depending on supplier & figure, with a typical clean & nicely figured peice being $15 & an insane peice being $40. Veneers are not cheap, either, especially for good ones. So using good materials, a cheap material cost will be roughly $75-$100. That's a friggin bunch if somebody is wanting the blank for $200.

I'm all about low cost, high grade materials. I'd love to find ebony into birdseye veneered blanks for $200. But realistically, it's a pipe dream. If it happens, it'll be reject, crap blanks made with green wood & cheap veneers & low quality construction. You get what you pay for.

no green wood is right!!!! :)

As its known i'm not a cue maker, but i own a pile of cues and been around cue makers for over 20 years, and a biz man. I understand everyone has to make a living and cutting costs is a great way to make $$$, but at what price??? if its pissed off customers its a high price. If a blank costs an extra hundred passing the direct cost through to the customer without a markup is a good middle ground solution. Happy customer-and a better product without extra overhead. Believe me most cue buyers aint gonna sweat a extra $100-$200-if they do, is that the kind of customer you want??? :)

LOL, the boys at Brunswick turned out thousands of them, a hundred years ago,too bad no one knows what they knew.

Your prices are more than fair, your not a new kid when it comes to cues, you also understand quality, If anything you might be selling yourself short. When it comes to oversized blanks, un-even points can be aligned with a little practice.
Good Luck.

Duc,

Price doen't mean anything if the wood is not of acceptable quality or stable but you know all that. Most of the guys here know what it cost for good ebony and Maple. So I would think most of us will be flexible to whatever price adjustment you have to make.

Mario

Thanks guys, I really appreciate all of your feedback and comments.

My goal is to try make a good quality full splice blank and sell it at a fair price. I think most of our clients and potential buyers understand the quality of the our blanks when compared to some of the custom full splice blanks in the market. I've been testing the market in the last few years and our blanks have done really well and the feedback from our buyers for them have been amazing.

I've seen many of my blanks converted by some of the world best cue builders as well as new builders looking to kick start their venture. I'm really proud to see that more and more of my converted blanks are now in the hand of many players around the world. The quality of our blanks can speak for itself in all of the conversion cues that I've seen over the years. These blanks are oversize so the quality of the conversion is really based on the experience of the builder and you can really tell the difference by comparing conversion. I've truly believe our blank is a great canvas for new and experience builders looking to get better ROI for their work.

I'm hoping that we can continue to provide you with newer models of quality full splice blanks at great prices.

Regards,
Duc.
