Whoa...that's different!

when I go to this thread I have to move my cursor over to read the whole message ?
The same is true in the other style... to a somewhat lesser extent.

And to those complaining about avatars leading to "wasted space," this theme is actually far more compact - the other theme wasted space on top of every thread.

I can make the background area white... there. Done. This also makes the content "pop" just a little more, so... perhaps it will stay like this. The other background was #eeeeee, which is just about as close to white as you can get without being WHITE.

Zip-Iddy-Doo-Da!

I wondered what all the Fuss was about!? Now I know...Pretty Smooth Mike...I thought my options were set to, 'Use Forum Default', but I was still on Vb3?...new look is very cool!

That's not really true Erik. This other style puts all the stuff on the left into the up and down space of the avatar only. You are thinking in total size. As users we should be thinking in scrolling size.

Having the avatar and stuff on the left of the posts, shortens the realestate that is available for posts. If the post is long, then it takes up much more room with less space to use going across. Plus on short posts, this takes up more space because it has all the stats and stuff taking up more room than needed. Also, like the post above, if the image is long it adds to the sideways scroling. Yes, it would on the old style, but not nearly as much.

Are you not allowed to adapt this style to be all the way across style? It's too bad you can't use the new colors and images from the new one and combine them with the format of the old one.

Just suggestions and ideas.

OK so I was wrong, I did a complete study of sizing. I am wrong. The new style may look like it takes more scrolling, but it doesn't really. In some cases it is shorter by a lot, and where it is longer it barely is. SO sorry about all of that. Keep on trucking Erik!

Do you know if we are still going to have a contest on banner designs? I mean we need one for both styles anyway. Can you make those banners rotate also? on both styles? Just curious.

I don't mind the Avitar on the side at home, but I need to be more stealthlike at work...

By fitting my browser to fit inside the preview pane in outlook, It looks like I am reading email with the old layout...(I can scroll below the avitar to hide it)...

You are forced to turn off the Avitar with it being on the side like that cause you can't hide it.........and some of them will draw attention from a distance...... ;)

I don't know about what opions were said , didn't even read it but my opion is, this isn't what brought me here it was an easy reading forum easy on the eyes and very navigational , to me this new look is an eyesore and I have a dell 20 inch screen and IMO it should be put back to it's original look, there wasn't anything wrong with it from the start.

have you ever herd, going from good to worst well here it is> IMO

Just read post #71. You will be fine.

Just wanted to post a few thoughts...

First, great job on the new skin. You guys got it up with a minimum of problems (it looks like) and I think it looks great.

Personally, I like the new theme. It's much smoother than the old one, and was a lot easier on the eyes until we had to make the background color white. I don't know if everybody else is using CRT screens, but a white background on an LCD monitor is like staring into a lightbulb.

The only other thing that I still think needs a little tweaking is the color of the text that shows you where in the forums you are... ie, this thread is:

AzBilliards Forums > Main Category > Main Forum > Whoa...that's different!

That could probably be a little darker than the standard settings. But that's my only gripe. Everything else looks great. :)

(sweet edit feature too. kicks ass!)

I don't know if its the background being white or gray but I think the text itself needs to be either darker or a larger font.

not bold and bold or maybe arial black

Sleek and Cool

Whoaaa!!! So that's what you've been cooking lately Mike!
Nice job! the color is just fine and the speed to load the webpage
has no problem on my computer so far. Yap it take much space even with few lines of message. But overall this is very good.

Good job! and Thanks for this needed change. ;)

Thanks for changing the background to white, or near white. It makes everything much easier to read.
As far as the other stuff, I don't really care. I'm interested more in the content, and ease of use, than the look.

Most browsers will change font sizes on the fly... try holding down the Ctrl key and scrolling the mouse wheel up or down. If you don't have a mouse wheel, Ctrl and the + key might work too.

See the attachment to this post for a size comparison. Basically, I can sum it up as follows:
a) the vb3 default style saves more space on shorter posts
b) the tech two style saves more space on longer posts (because it doesn't add to the height by having the title/avatar area on top).

In situations where a user has no avatar, the space used is almost the same.

White space is not a bad thing. And the new theme lets you collapse posts, remember - just click the little "collapse" triangle in the top right corner.

I can probably rotate them, but typically that's not done for caching as well as branding purposes.

It's possible this site may still "force" the switch to this theme once it's done. Makes troubleshooting and upkeep that much easier.

Just curious...did anyone else lose the ads with the new skin?

Nobody should have lost the ads. It was one of the first things I included, and did so well before it went "live."

You too would benefit from seeing the attached image. :-) The old one required you to scroll past people's avatars just to see what they had to say.

And remember, with either skin, you can turn the display of avatars off.

I'm back (i.e. awake and at my computer) again if anyone has more suggestions. I hear the blacker text bit... I wasn't sure what the bit about the fonts was (bold and bold and arial?), and so on. So, keep 'em coming...

Would it be possible to reconnect the link to the Wei table? It was nice having access to it right from this page..

Thanks!

I don't see it in the other theme, either. Where was it?
I've been reading all these "whoa" type statements but saw, other than the forums were a bit shuffled, no difference. I normally use Firefox, I opened the forum using IE6 it looked a lot different. Is the new skin compatible with Firefox, or is it a cookie issue, that is causing it?

Thanks,
Tracy
