Who's the best player in Virginia

Man, you are telling my story! Is I am you and you are me and he is she and we are all together?

Have we ever met? I worked @ Shirlington when it first opened and used to live inside the Beltway, but haven't been there outside of planet pool events in prob 2yrs.
That's exactly how it went when I met T-Bone, also -- I guess it's his standard opening.

Matt/BB, either of you live in DC?

Negative- used to live in McLean, then Arlington, now Manassas...not much time spent inside the Beltway anymore...

T-Bone is the funniest guy in the poolroom. What a character. I'm usually let down if he isn't in there when I come in. I like shootin' the breeze with him at least once a week. LOL!

I live in Alexandria, VA (Kingstowne).

LOL. Actually, we were playing a race to 9 and we stopped with me leading 3-2 and Mike breaking. Ilir came over and wanted to gamble and Mike and I agreed that that action was much more important. IMO, Mike gave up a little too much weight, the 78, and Ilir came out on top for a little $. Then Ilir and I played a set even and I won $100. That little buttmunch is playing pretty well these days as you saw that night he four packed Keith. I have beaten him even the last 6 out of 7 times, breaking even once, and he keeps coming back. I think it's an ego thing and he just wants to beat me so bad. How come you're not going to Sterling? Too much work?

Ilir. I can never remember his name because I always forget how to pronounce it. I do like running into him. His smile is infectious, and he does have that old European charm about him. Ilir has developed the old killer instinct, giving him a renewed sense of confidence, and the way he got there was ACTION! (IMO) Good for him! :)

I've got many hours of transcripts due before we go to Turning Stone. I could pawn it off, but I'd rather make the money. A bird in the hand, as they say! ;)

Hi!rackemup :D I'm just responding to quote you made.Matt does play very good, but I really would like to play again sometime in the future for a nice stack of "DOUGH" if I could.I would like you to resond to that if you can,or back him for the "MONEY".Please don't take it the wrong way.I'm just looking to "GAMBLE".

Ryan:

I have played a total of 3 hours of pool since Valley Forge. I played about a total of 3 hours of pool, the 3 months prior to Valley Forge. I have a good job and a wonderful family that I choose to spend my time with these days. So it is practically impossible for me to match up with players of your caliber right now. With that said, I am not done with pool and I will practice again in the future and you will definitely get action.....and I do not need a backer!

By the way, thanks for the compliments from those of you who like my game.

Welcome to AzBilliards Forum, Matt! It is nice to read a post from one of Virginia's finest players! :)

You have your priorities right, Matt. Folks can love pool with all of their being, but you can't live off of love. When push comes to shove, there is no place like home. It sounds as if you have a wonderful family and a bright future to look forward to.

Though Ryan is a pool player through and through, he does have a beautiful family, a cute daughter who has captured his heart, a savvy lady by his side who keeps him straight, and a brand-new baby boy on the way, due sometime this month. :p

By the way, in August of 2006, Allen Hopkins will host a MAJOR bar-box table event at Valley Forge with a guaranteed first-place prize of $25,000, $500 entry fee, 8-ball. Just wanted to give you a heads-up because these are decent monies, and this kind of venue is attractive to players of your caliber. Plus, it's not too far away and is within driving distance.

If you see The Painter, give him my regards. He's a funny son of a gun, and I like his style when he's in action. What a pitbull, never gives up, and like you and Ryan, he also has a full-time job and most definitely has got game!

Here's a picture of my pool-playing significant other at this year's Valley Forge, posing with a handful of cheese won on that action table. I'm a pool enthusiast, but I am also a realist. We only attend events within our budget AND when time allows. I enjoy having a roof over my head and a little jingle in my pocket! Pool can get you broke, but only if you let it! :p

There were some GREAT action-packed matches that week at the Super Billiards Expo, and I hope to see you again next year! Again, welcome to the forum! :)

Thanks JAM. I will definitely tell Mike(The Painter) you said hello. He has always enjoyed yours and Keith's company. Thanks for the heads up on the 2006 tourney. I will definitely look into that. Valley Forge is my favorite event of the year. Good Luck to you and Keith. I believe Keith may be the only player on earth you could lose to.......and enjoy it!

T-Bone is the man. Plain and simple. He is a better player than Kingpin in my opinion. Kingpin is my friend and that is nothing I wouldn't say to him. If T-Bone was younger and played full time he could hang with/beat any of those names you mentioned. The guy just has a lot of natural talent. He has a full time job though and is a family guy, which is how he likes it. Just my 2 cents.

Are these the Kingpin and T-Bone (Steve) you're talking about?

Va. Best players

I think when it comes to bar box players you have to look between the Roanoke and Lynchburg area. A few names i can think of right off are
Mike Painter
Greg Taylor
Bryan Bryant
Johe Lee
Trevor Stanley
Doug Carter
Chris Stoneman
Bernnie Curby
Wess Largen
Ray Datamore
Willie Compton, And of coures the Greate Late Mountain man Eddie Hubble. One thing that some of these guys on this list have done is very rear. The teem's Charbells from Roanoke In 1996, finnished 1st and 2nd in the teem event in the VNEA nationals in Las Vegas. To my knowladge no other teems from the same area/bar have ever done that. Ray Datamore and Mike Painter also finished 2nd and 3rd in the master's teem the next few years after that. A lot of players have came through this are looking for action and went home broke. (JMO) I am also glad to be a part of this list and hope to get back in action very soon.
