Why are there only 36 players at the $6,500 Added Seminole 10-Ball Tour in NC

The Semeinole Tour is without a doubt one of the best money tours in the nation. That's my opinion.

I was just wondering why many of the players do not support it?
This weekend at Fast Eddies in NC there were only 36 players.

36 PLAYERS, WTF!
Events like these should have 64 or 128 players every time, again, my opinion. What's yours, Why are the players not going to and supporting these great events?

Looking at the brackets makes me think of a gost town with all the byes on the chart. It's just stupid that more players are not supporting these events. Somebody, please explain this to me. Did the Sem Tour piss off the players?(NO), Is it a bad deal for the players? (NO, It's a great deal) I have never heard anything bad about this tour and all I see is the Tribe doing good things for pool and the players. I just don't get it.

The following is a guess. The Seminole Tour is centered in Florida where most of its members live. I dont believe it has ever gone to NC before so i suppose anyone who wanted to play would have to pay a "registration or Tour Fee" . This may have turned off potential new players-having to pay an additional fee and only be able to play in one tourny. As i said this is a guess- i dont really know how that particular tour works.

I agree with what you have said but I also know that some people have been hit pretty hard by the depression. I'm calling it a depression even if the president won't.

The Seminole Tribe and Tour ROCK! I so wish they were in my part of the world. I regrettably haven't been to any of their tournaments but plan to do so. Some things came up this year that messed up my plans to go to their JAX tournament and the one near Tampa. Haven't given up hope for this year but it's coming to a close.

I believe that if you don't involve the amateurs on the these pro events, you are shooting yourself in the foot. The amateurs are the numbers. The amateurs have the money and jobs.

Speaking on that.

I was approached by a VERY, VERY GOOD player not from my area, yesterday who just happened to be passing through town and he asked me if I would be going to the U.S. Open 9 Ball Championship. He was interested in sharing a room with me and was willing to pay half of the expenses. I think there are MANY pros who would like to hook up with decent people who aren't going to try to monopolize their time when they good to and event with them. They especially want and need people who are going to put up their credit card and secure the room for the both of them. Pool players generally don't want to part with their cash until the very last minute, (Kind of like me and the rest of the world).

I seriously think about setting up some kind of underground network of good guy who would be willing to share rooms with a pro or even provide FREE room (not board) to the visiting pros. We would keep a record of each pro and if transgressions occur we would ban them from our good guy network as well as ban good-guys who try to take advantage of the players.

If anyone is interested in this idea of a helping network for pros primarily centered around providing them with a place to stay when they are in your town for a tournament, let me know and we will start communication to discuss the possibility of creating such.

Yes the Sem tour in centralized in FL but they have also done events at Fast Eddies before and in the Atlanta area. There is no tour card on the Sem tour so thats not a valid reason. It's unfortunate that more players dont take advantage of $6,500 added because I am sure it makes many promoters second guess plans for open events. I feel sorry for the players for shooting themselves in the foot. I think it's a black-eye on the players for not making their way to these events.
 
Nostroke hit the nail on the head. The bulk of the tour resides here in Florida.

Despite the low turn out, it's great to see Ronny Park playing so well.
 
ronnie is doing well...as is another of our locals, Eddie Little. I would love to see Eddie pull a big one off.

Correct. There's no tour card fee, so I don't know why people can't dish out $150 to play in a tourney like this. If I'm not mistaken, last year and the year before were kinda the same....so, maybe the economy doesn't play as big of a role as one might think. Especially since I see people playing $100 sets like it's no big deal. Even with rough times, I'm sure most pool players can round up $150 if they needed to.
 
I forgot expenses. lol. I'd be playing in NC but I didn't feel like taking the long drive...gas, hotel...etc. Locally though, that's a different story.

What you are suggesting is a great idea that deserves a separate thread that mighty eventually become a sticky after details are worked out. Ten or fifteen years ago I went to Utah, a stranger in a strange land to say the least! My friend and guide to the backcountry was accustomed to camping out in a tent or just a sleeping bag when the temperatures dropped into the thirties every night in the summer! I prefer to travel a bit more plush and intended to stay in motels. Most motels charge exactly the same for one or two people and I don't think that anyone charged more than ten dollars difference, extra towels and sheets for two beds. I found it no hardship at all to pay for two in the motel rooms instead of just myself.

If a person was planning to go to an event anyway they could offer a pro half of a room for 25% or less and still save a little money for themselves while helping pool I believe.

The devil is in the details of course. Pairing compatible players and patrons. It could be done but it would require honest dialogue between the two parties beforehand. I think this is an idea that should be pursued and then perhaps a sticky thread or if this became popular even a sticky and a subforum.

Just wanted to clarify a few things although a few of you have already said it. First of all, thank you to those who have said nice things about the Seminole Tribe and the Tour in general. Much appreciated.

There is no "Tour Fee". $150 Entry for all events excep the $40K Added event in November.

This is the 2nd year in a row we have been at Fast Eddie's in NC.

Let me know if you guys have any other questions! :)

I have been tryin to figure out why these events do no get full fields, I thought maybe its because they start on friday night, but there was an event a couple months ago that started saturday and it got a low turnout too.
This is the only tour that to my knowledge doesnt take money out of the prize fund, so to me its a no brainer.

this is the 1st one i have missed in 4 years and i wont miss another

maybe the 150 is too much? would 100 get 30 more people? i doubt it

plus i know they want this to be a professional tour, not an amateur tour, so when they get 40 players everyone can run out and is very capable .

the way i look at is even if i go 2 and out and i play corey and stevie 1st and 2nd . i get to play them a race to 7 for 75 each. which i would do anyway

I don't think that is the case at all.

Like James said, some people will miss a few Seminole tour stops due to the Friday night start, but for the most part - its a very full competitive field.

I was talking with another player yesterday, and we talked about the distance to travel up to NC and back for a Friday night start - then back home to make it to work on Monday.

You also have to factor in that many players attended the Gem City event in Marrietta last weekend. Unless you have the time (and money) to attend both back to back without swinging back home, its a lot of miles back and forth.

Factor in the cost of a room, gas, etc combined with travel fatigue - and you get a shorter field.

The fact of the matter is that there are several tours that shoot through here in our back yard (KF Tour - Pechauer Tour - Viking Tour, etc). Most of the Florida players probably passed on this one because of that. (JMO)

Either way, the Seminole Pro Tour is a great tour, extremely well run, and it provides the best competition that the world has to offer, for $150. Its the best deal out there.

I think you naied the problem right on the head. It seems like the more tours there are the less players there are for each event and it's alos driving down the added money amounts for each event.

I remember someone saying this was going to happen a few years agao and it seems like they may have been right.

but look at the added money in this event.its not goin down its more than anything else goin on
 
I think the main problem is the lack of action at these events, i know some people that went to olathe instead for that very reason.
look at the bar table event in mobile, they get a ton of people to play and there will be a ring game or a winner take all mini.
Im convinced that the friday start, lack of a calcutta, lack of action, and the short races play a factor,there just isnt much buzz for these events. the sad part is there is not a better run tour
I would like to see a race to 9 or 11

but i will still play no matter what, even if its a race to one lol

The buzz is important in the turnout not only in players but in spectators. I know many people like you allude to that will be going to the Mobile tournament at Breaker's Billiards but won't play in the tournament and are just going to get their "fix" being part of a corporation, betting on the side, buying someone in the Calcutta, or just matching up and gambling.

It seems that gambling is an attraction for a certain group of people that play and just sweat. The tournament in Lafayette is a virtual sellout every 3 or 4 months. With the $35,000.00 in the Calcutta, it stimulates a lot of interest.

Adding amateurs to the same tournament venue is a good idea to fill the seats.

ding ding ding....

Pool is saturated right now compared to what people want to spend. If you are not giving away free stuff left and right most people cannot afford it. They save their money for one or two events all year long. Derby City and the Vegas BCA show taking most everyone's time
