That argument might hold were it not for the fact that Shane is not the king of the hill by any means.
Here's a list of some of the people he has to decisively beat before even being considered for that title.
Dennis Orcollo
Yang Chin Shun
Francisco Bustamante
Chang Jun Lin
Wu Chia Ching
Lee Van Corteza
Alex Pagulayan (they are 1 and 1 on TAR correct?)
In that match Dennis missed 1 easy shot four games in a roll, and got safe on everyone. That was the difference in that match. A race in a tournament does not tell who the best player is anyway. Who put Dennis in the losers side. It should also have been a true double elimination, and Shane would have been a big favorite.

Without question!
FORGOT NO!
Just didn't think worth while mentioning!
Dennis is not a One-Pocket player, that is why he could spot him a ball and still win. But if that's what you want to believe feel free!
If Shane even thought he was the best he would play Dennis in Ten-Ball, for a large amount, on TAR.
Oh but that's right, I almost forgot Shane lost the last two times he played Bustamante in TAR matches,
someone Orcollo beats.
You won't see Shane playing Orcollo a match for big money.
Mars even said he doesn't want to bet on Shane over Orcollo
Ask Jay Helfert who he thinks is the best?
You might see them playing for a few thou. in a TAR match with TAR putting up all the money, but for the big money you won't see it.
Seems you totally forgot:
Who ever is the best wants to play 10-Ball for a large amount of money!
-------> ORCOLLO WANTS TO PLAY------------------> SHANE DOESN'T (and Shane has the best Ten-Ball break in the world and STILL DOESN'T want to play!
So Neil, now again, who is the best? LOL
I never said I didn't want to bet on SVB against Dennis, I said I wouldn't stake the game. I think it is a very close game and giving up odds on the money doesn't make sense to me.
I will tell you what when they play and they will, I will bet with you up to 5,000 on Shane, that is if you post since I don't know you and don't care for your posting style.
This is the best response on here imo. Both are GREAT players, no question about it. And both can play tourneys or action games equally well. But when they get together they will each want to exploit any advantage they think they have. Fact is Dennis is not as comfortable playing One Pocket yet as he is Ten Ball. And Shane is! So what's the surprise here.
By the way 9-8 is a very small spot, not a full ball, only half a ball. So Dennis is coming up fast at One Pocket. By next year he won't get a spot from anyone. P.S. He won 4-3 yesterday in the one set they played! So they broke even overall. This is a very close game, just like it would be at Ten Ball.
IMO when you're talking about the very best pool players in the world, there is not much to separate them. Any one of the top ten guys can beat any one of the others on a given day. NO ONE is dominant! But there may well be 10 to 15 players who are clearly above the pack. These are the guys who know how to win the big ones. Shane and Dennis are definitely two of them!
I'd say there are at least 50 elite level players on the planet today, some of whom don't make it to all the international events. Ten each in China, Taiwan, Philippines, Europe and the rest of the world including USA. It's not only Shane who is capable of holding his own internationally. Johnny, Dennis Hatch, Rodney, Dechaine, Stevie and Corey are still elite level players. A few more guys like Brandon are knocking on the door.
Just remembering your statement:

Perhaps you missed the Hard Times Tournament, results?
Check it out it was over yesterday

Perhaps you also missed the U.S. Open 10-Ball, results?
Either way here is why Shane is not the best, he doesn't want to play
(the best Dennis Orcollo) some Ten-Ball even though he (Shane) has the best Ten-Ball break in the world.

So don't take my word for it Shane said it:

Shane called me two days ago to tell me he was in town, so I invited him to come by and see his old buddy Dennis . I'm such a schemer! Well Shane shows up yesterday afternoon and pretty soon the jawing begins. Ten Ball, One Pocket and on and on, they go back and forth with no conclusion. Dennis wants only to play Ten Ball and Shane wants only to play One Pocket.
You know why Shane doesn't want to play Ten-Ball?
Because Dennis is the best!
That's not to say that I don't have great respect for Shane he's a great player he just isn't as good as Dennis in Ten-Ball.
That's why Dennis is the best in the world.
