Why Do I Play Lights Out when I Drink?

Perhaps the answer is similar to "Why do fat chicks look so sexy when I'm wasted"..... Everything looks better when you're drunk...... your game, girls, and the almighty porcelain seat.

Alcohol and some drugs dull the Analytical side of your brain. This allows you to play very Creative. In a sub-councious motor function state. No thoughts to interfere, just cool shots man....randyg

No seriously I get into a state of mind and just play that I have trouble getting into when I sober

A serious answer here. When I climbed iron for a living I was often a bit stiff and sore shooting pool. After a few beers and moving around the table awhile I shot better pool. It may be that your stroke smoothes out a bit after you have been drinking and you are relaxed. There may also be merit to an earlier post that you just relax and let things happen on a deeper level instead of overthinking and micromanaging shots too.

I have just came back from the first serious practice I have gotten in for weeks. I shot better than I expected after the lay off. One thing I noticed is that I was looking at the cue ball on my final stroke. I "corrected" this and started shooting poorly!

I do the same thing...until I've had one too many. Gimme 1-2 (OK, 6) beers and a barbox with a big CB and I'll run racks I can't when I'm sober.

Me too. That's why I keep a keg of Bud at 26 degrees next to my table. Some of my friends will not drink all night on a Friday because they think it helps their game. It's the best to take money from them after they have stayed sober all night just to take some money from "the drunk". It's even better to remind them how good the beer tastes while you are beating them, because you know they really want one.

9 out of 10 that play better/think they play better are doing it on a bar table at a bar with other drunks. Been there, did that, A LOT.:D Johnnyt

Next time your at a bar playing lights out drunk have someone drive you to the nearest poolroom and play some $100 sets with a B or B+ player. That will sober you right back down to D. Johnnyt

This wasn't on a bar table is was the Diamond 9fts with simonis cloth and I was playing one pocket....I want my game to be at that level all the time

You're playing "lights out" because you're actually sleeping it off on the floor
:D

Your one of the 1 out of 10 that play better drunk. Define drunk. Drunk to me is that you can't walk to well. Johnnyt

I think RandyG is on the right track here. You allow yourself to play more creative shots without second guessing yourself, plus confidence levels always seem to be up while drunk!

The trick is finding the balance between this & getting so plastered you can't see the balls clearly. I played snooker many years ago with a friend during a very heavy Friday night session, we were both playing well until I had one long shot & had real problems aiming for the ball. Apparently anything over 6ft away I was starting to see 2 of!!
