Why do Pinoy's tend to be 'dirty' pool players

I could care less about the chalk. I think we figured out why the Pinoy players are the best in the world. Can't NOTHING shark them. If the 400 people around this table don't distract you, then nothing will!! It looks like the entire crowd from the US Open is around one table in the garage!!:D

LOL. that's dirty? maybe some time i could show some photos what one of the tables here looks like. we'd literally wash the floors first before we could play. dont ask me why we had to (especially when you're eating right now). we would play while the floors dry up. we walk carefully so we dont slip. i wont even mention how bad the actual table is.

I use powder although I don't get it on the table like they do but the conditions there are far different so I'd probably use more powder there than I do at home.

Did you see how slow that table was? No wonder guys like Efren and Bustamante have that big pump stroke.

my friends and I carry one of these in one of our case pockets

Pinoy Pool halls

I can tell the OP has most likely never played in the PI , I have played in three sided tin shacks , hotter than be damned , 50 pinoys crowed in sweating , betting, singing humidity about 106% , hell I have seen the devil sitting under a window fan it was so damn hot in one room . a little chalk on the table is the least of worries.

My friend is a Pinoy player who grew up over there in a family owned pool room.He says because of the humidity it's how people play there.

Yeah, I assume that the chalk on the rail was just a convenience for him, so that he could get a little on his hand when ever he needed some, between shots.

By the way, both players made some really bad mistakes, which is very surprising for top players over there? That Lupin really cracked under the pressure it seemed. He played pretty bad there at the end. I assume he could not stay focused. Too many distractions in that crowd. They (the audience) do not seem to have any respect for the players that they are watching. It is horrible, I think.

Having lived in the PI for three years, I know why people use powder.

I grew up using powder and use it even today, but I don't cover my hands with it and get it all over the table.

I think that someone mentioned that there was no side table for the chalk, so I just assume that maybe it is common for them to just get a lot of it (maybe from their case?), and set some on the rail, so it can easily be had (if, and when needed).

Oh yeah, but the distractions really seemed to mess up Lupin there at the end.

Lol, that was a really funny reply.

Messy may have been the better word choice. I see what you mean. I'm no powder fan either. But considering the high humidity over there...

Good Post, I thought we had a thread about Dirty Pool players & their antics...

This thread is ridiculous. Watch a few more of these Pinoy matches. Very often the powder pile is on the rails and if not it is close buy. They also use the powder or tailors chalk to mark balls. I've never seen any of them object to they way they use chalk so I don't understand why it is brought up so aggressively here with the claim of dirty play.

Most of them don't even have a cue, much less a case to put it in. If you find some powder somewhere, you put it wherever you can put it. If somebody happens to have some powder, they pour it wherever they can. Lots of the places people play in only have the pool table. There are no places to sit or put anything, especially in the barrio town pool halls.

You have to experience it before you really understand what the deal is. Playing pool in the Philippines is a unique experience.

Before I even made it to your post I was thinking about this. We've all seen all the different videos of them playing with the chickens running everywhere. Well for anyone that's never lived with chickens, all they do is constantly run around during crapping EVERYWHERE lol. I'm gonna guess this has something to do with what you're talking about. Wonder how big of a problem for all the outdoor rooms there?

Justin have you never seen any of these outdoor videos I was just talking about? They will often bet on individual shots and have people running all round and to the table constantly.

My thoughts exactly. Looks like a millions people watching each and every shot. This would be great training for those who are fortunate enough to play at events with a live stream or tv table.

When I was a kid we had a player who used baby powder on every shot. After an hour or so the table looked like he was making pizzas at Dominoes. We came up with a nickname for him and he was forever called "Spanking the Baby." He used to cup his left had and it looked just like a baby's behind and then proceeded to splash powder all over it. Thus the nickname.

And not only are they around, they literally are all over the place sometimes during play. I'm not saying it as a bad/good thing. This is what I grew up around with. I am based in the US now but still remembers this. Some crowds are respectful and quite during play, some are just ignorant and sometimes stupid. Watch the wagers going on. Similar to what goes on in cock fighting arenas, only not as loud due to the comparably smaller size of the crowd.
