Not sure..

I get a tiny window every winter to play pool when I'm not working. I start and hit them horrible, keep taking beatings until I can't stand it and practice. Usually by the time I start playing ok, it's back to work for the season. But after a while, I play because of the jackass hounding me to "play some", till I'm the guy saying.. let's "play some". lol

FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME !!!

the next best thing after basketball and bowling. it deserves to be in the top 3. better than Chess which I'm also really good at and table tennis.

Becase I'm totally addicted to the "torcher"! of the game from both ends. To GIVE and RECEIVE. Just as I get a little cocky, it deals me a quick hand of humilty.:)

I agree...It's an addiction I havn't found a cure for.......yet

I play for the LOVE of the game, to socialize and hang out with the many of friends I've made playing and learning the game. A lot of friends I've made playing pool 10 years ago are some of my best friends now and I wouldn't give any of them or pool up for anything.

Love the game

I'm with the pack. When i'm on the table I think about pool, when i'm off of the table I think about pool. I just love it. When I break and run it's second only to sex. a true high!

why

I walked into a new pool room yesterday, for practice. I heard the Olhausen tables were nice, and I never played on one before. I was there one minute and someone wanted to gamble with me, and I really just wanted to be alone and practice. It made me wonder what motivates people to play the game of pool.
Well as a young boy i played for the fun of it and as i improved- for the compition-when i married and had a familey for the money as i made more at pool than my job, and the extra income surley helped-now i am old and it back for the fun of it OLD MAN STICK

I play cause I just love the game, it's fun, and I've been told I look like I belong in a pool hall :)

Are You Kidding?

Every pool player I know that says they play mainly for the cash is broke.

when i first started playing, it was for the love of the game..now its just for the cash cuz im a sick gambler..not that i bet high, which i dont, just dont enjoy playing for fun anymore... have to be betting something when i play now or i'd rather not play at all...

I play for the love of the game. I've bet on about 2% of the games I've played "IF" that high. That and plus pool as about my last resort to exercise.

I play it mostly because it relaxes me. Or maybe because I have to be relaxed to play well, either way its kind of like meditation.

The game takes away much stress. I can get on the table every night right after work for an hour and waala!! I'm a new man!! It has nothing to do with the 3 COORS I had while playing. :D :D It's a PASSION!!!

It goes even better with beer.

I really do not like to gamble though occassionally, after the straight pool matches are over, I indulge in a ring game of 9 ball, or, preferably, 10 ball, for low stakes. I almost always lose but it's fun and not enough cash changes hands to hurt anyone.

However, I spend most of every market day day trading.

How were those Olhausen tables?

I started playing when I was 20 in leagues because I wanted something to do with friends and meet more people, i dropped down to an APA 3. I fell in love with the game and I haven't stopped playing and practicing since. it's now 5 years later and I'm an APA 7 and have been for the last 2 years. Setting up a nice table at home in May so I can practice more. I just love everything about the game!

Pool is my passion, my mistress and my stress reliever. It keeps me up at night thinking about different shots that I may have played different, patterns etc. If I did not have pool to give me some release from the real world, I might go crazier than I am already.

I also love to compete against stronger players because I watch quietly, take mental notes and work on the things that I have learned. I hope that I never stop learning, if I do, I may as well quit. Pool is only second to family, friends and God.

Love the game and love to compete but that was not an option so I chose love of the game!!

I started league because I was always at a certain bar and some friends said come shoot APA with us because you are always here, so why not start shooting also?

Since then, I shoot because I love pool. The other 2 reasons, close seconds, are that going out on league night is a good "excuse" to hang out with friends and drink some beer. I am not sure which of those 2 is more important....lol

Also, I have found that pool can be really therapeutic. If I have some crap going on in my life, I can just go shoot for a couple of hours and forget about all that crap for a just a bit.
