Why have the rake hanging underneath the table?

tall people suck

I'm short and I use the bridge a lot. In fact, I know that if the cb is past the side pocket, I need the bridge- I don't even have to stretch to measure that out anymore. Having a bridge underneath, on each side of the table, helps.

And I know bridges pretty well- a lot of bridges are crooked, warped, have wonky bridge heads that wobble and slide around on the edge of the stick... I think all of these bad bridge issues are due to people standing bridges up against the walls, or laying them on the ground and stepping on them...

Now me, what I hate more than anything is all you tall people hanging the racks on the lights. For me to grab the rack, I have to look up- directly into the lights- just to get the rack. Some late and tired nights it can seriously take several minutes for the burns in my retinas to go away after staring into the lights trying to get at that rack.

Boyfriend (yet another one of you tall people) says that it hurts your poor backs to have to bend over and hook the rack on the holder under the table, and that's why you do it.

I say: Take up knitting, then! And leave the &^%$ chalk alone!

There is NOTHING more aggrivating than having to duck under the table to see if the rake is there. And then having to tangle with the hooks to try and get the rake out. And then messing around trying to put it back.

I have seen some setups on Brunswicks where it's more like a "tray" and is easier than the ones with hooks.

But let's get real, stand the rake up against the wall. And if you don't like that, then put it on the ground underneath the table.

Are you an Octopus or just having a bad day. I don't find it very difficult at all, I like things in their respective places!!:)

Oh and by the way, try staying at a Holiday Inn next time I suspect that will make you feel better in the morning!!!

I'll bet you'd go right off the deep end at a local hall here .... they have two rests at each table, one hanging under each side ! Saves going to the other side to grab the rest, which is nice ... .imo :grin-square:

Not if he is an Octopus!!!!!

Frustrations, aggravations, and dizzy...

In the old days, the cue racks were not always near the tables, only rows of spectator chairs. Between being taller, learning to shoot fairly well with my left hand, and at an early age understanding where to leave the ball to have the best reach as much as possible, I rarely had to use the bridge. It was always there just under the edge of the table.

My frustrations etc. were the fact that I got out of line, not that I had to bend down and use a couple calories. So I say stop looking for an excuse and learn to play better shape. Miraculously all pain and aggravations will disappear.

What's worse is when you gotta reach down and grab the balls to rack them. ITS 2011 PEOPLE, why don't they rack themselves.

Also, another thing I hate is screwing my cue together. Cue makers, one word... Magnets.

Another thing is actually chewing my food when I eat. Wish I could find a way around that.

Oh and putting shoes on, I mean really... They are so far down there!

I can keep going on about stupid things no human should complain about, but you get my point.

wasn't their a table in that old movie Pluto Nash that racked itself?

I WTB self racking table pls!

I hate dealing with the hooks as well. I like my rake handed to me by a fat guy in a suit.

Seriously, I never liked the hooks. Seemed to break my concentration. I bought a moosehead, slap it on a house cue and lean it agin the wall.

I used the rake from every position imaginable.. Hqaving to run around the room for one is disconcerting but otherwise, I didn't feel put out.... I've been playing for 50 years

If I have a shot that requires the bridge, it's probably not a normal shot, so taking a couple of seconds to reach down and grab the bridge gives me a little extra time to get settled. Rather than a problem, I find the extra time a welcome benefit.

Man all these people afraid of Hooks!!!!:grin:

I probably would go off the deep end, I don't even know what a "rest" is lol.

Ah yes, my mistake ... should have said "ladies-aid" :grin-square:

PS Be glad you don't play snooker ... sometimes there is a shot so long that one must go retrieve the extra long cue and rest ... er, ladies-aid ... from halfway across the room.

PPS  I had to use the extra long cue one time on a 9' table :o
