Why is it that Jose Parica hasn't been inducted yet in the Billiard Hall of Fame?

What are the qualifications for a player inorder to be inducted and become an honorary member of the illustrious Billiard Hall of Fame?

Jose Parica, otherwise known as "Amang" hasn't been given the recognition yet as a hall of famer which he believed he deserved or should have gotten it by now. what sounds to be insulting is that other players much younger than him, had already received such distinction. don't you feel that Jose here is being left out? Jose refused to retire permanently because of this kind of injustice and wants to prove something. guess all of his many accomplishments from the past were being ignored and he has to start from scratch.

dont you guys think these accomplishments of Parica were enough? or is there anything missing or yet something for him to prove?

I think this is a very good question. Parica paved the way for the Phillipine invasion...including Efren's coming over. Parica may not have as many "Pro" tour wins as Efren, but he has many tourney accomplishments. He is also one of the most feared players in the green rooms. He plays every game well and he says when he is in dead punch, even Efren cant beat him. I think he will get in the HOF eventually.

He has to be voted in by the BCA Hall of Fame Committee. If you are really concerned, you should contact those committee members. This forum will get to some of them, but probably not most.

Parica did get some votes in the last ballot. Do you feel he should go in ahead of Hopkins?

He also won the big tourney at the Sands in Las Vegas in 1990, Louie Roberts last tournament.

I was on the HOF committee this year and voted for Jose. My comment was that I would vote for him every year until he got in. And I will. He's got my vote. I also voted for Allen and Sang Lee.

Do the members of the Hall of Fame committee get to see how the other members of the committee voted? In other words, do the voting members get to see how many votes was cast for each nominee? Just curious as to how the process works.

Who's significantly younger than Parica and has gotten that distinction? Last time I looked at the HOF I don't recall a living player under 50 in there. Sigel I think was youngest inducted but he's a multiple world and US open champ.

You can see the total number of votes for each player, but not who voted for whoever.

I'm pretty sure Jean Balukas got in at a younger age than Mike.

I did some research... and Jay's correct... Jean was inducted in 1985 and she was born in 1959... making her either 25 or 26 when she was inducted (depending on where her birth date (June 28th) was relative to her induction date)... and yes, she is the youngest person ever to be in the HOF.

Mike was 35 when he was inducted... the youngest male to date.

Nick Varner was born May 15, 1948 and inducted at age 44 in 1992.
Earl Strickland was born in June 1961 and inducted in 2006 at age 45.

Man, is that a tough call...Hopkins has won a U.S. Open 9 Ball, a World 9 Ball Championship, a World 14.1 Championship as well as a slew of other pro titles. Plus, what he's done with the Super Billiard Expo...wow!

As for Parica, longevity and consistantly playing at world class speed, plus the aforementioned host of titles in this threads original post....

I personally would vote for Hopkins. More majors swayed me.

Some of the female members aren't nearly that old. Ewa, Loree Jon ... I'm not sure how old Robin was when she got in.

It's not too difficult to ascertain what a Filipino pool player's accomplishments are today because most, if not all, of the Filipino champion players are listed in Wikipedia. Here's Bustie's link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francisco_Bustamante

Ironically, American Champion Earl Strickland's page in Wikipedia states this at the top: The neutrality of this article is disputed. Please see the discussion on the talk page. :D

Here's Earl's link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earl_Strickland

There aren't as many American pool players listed in Wikipedia as there are Filipinos. There is no mention of the American legend and BCA Hall of Famer Buddy Hall, for example.

Jam, I believe the BCA Hall of Fame carries more weight with regards to recognition than being mentioned in wikipedia. Not being mentioned in the BCA hall of fame is like saying that Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player (according to the Encarta) without being inducted into the Hall of Fame.

I had thought that, too, until I noticed that Buddy Hall, who is a BCA Hall of Famer was not listed and Johnny Archer who is not a BCA Hall of Famer is listed.

Here's a list of the American pool players on Wikipedia, and more than half of them have NOTHING written up about them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BCA_Hall_of_Fame

Look at Loree Jon Jones' page in Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loree_Jon_Jones

A little bone, but not much meat on it when it comes to American pool players. It is sickening.

JAM,

Thanks for these links.

You do know

that the Wikipedia is made up of individual posts to it by the interent public, don't you? The reason some players are not in it is simply because someone has not taken it upon themselves to submit the proper bio, background info, and tournament wins to it to begin with.
