Why is sharking considered such bad form on this forum?

For cryin' out loud, Scott...How can you continually make these absurd comments? Everyone is NOT like you (thank goodness). Many of us here have played for far longer than 10 years, FOR MONEY, and never felt the need to shark someone...and I am not a liar!

Anyone that has played 10 years, especially for money, and says they have never sharked an opponent is a liar, pure and simple.

Some players are weak emotionally, a serious player hones in on this almost immediately. True friends will jokingly try to shark each other during frendly games (< $20 a game). One little comment can cause some players to go to hell in a hand basket. We just call them, 'weak sisters'.

BTW, I was also a catcher growing up, and chatter to the batter was part of the game, in fact, almost every sport I played taking your opponent 'off their game' was just part of the game.

How many of you have never shot multiple safeties in a row, because your opponent is a good open shooter, but really weak at kicking out of a safety, and helps you gain an advantage?

I have been playing well over 10 years and NEVER sharked anyone ever! In fact if my opponent is shooting and facing toward where I'm sitting and I have an itch or something, I alweays make sure not to stcratch it or move in any way until he shoots the shot. In fact, with the exception of one time that I was sharked by this one low-life type I can honestly say I've never been sharked before or if they were trying to shark me I was unaware of it.

If some of the guys in poker talked to ME the way they do to other guys one of us would have their a$$ handed to them. Unacceptable(WTF can't spell this tonight) behavior in my opinion, tv or no tv disrespect somebody else and get your a$$ handed to you. Like they say in the old days half these guys couldn't EVER keep their money without getting robbed, with all the pretty boys probably a few rapings also:eek:
The poker you see on tv is theatrics. Having lived and played in Vegas for a while you'll see that smack talk at the table will get you thrown out. Also comparing pool to golf or poker is an apples to oranges comparison.

Between SJM and Tom in Cincy, they covered the pertinent points.

I suspect from the OP, he didn't understand the difference between a shark and a hustle.

I'd add that in gaming terms, the difference compared to poker is having a good bluff vs a stacked deck.

One ( or maybe even both ) could get you seriously hurt.

Guess I need a dictionary

OK Wilson, you're right. I pretty much use hustling and sharking interchangeably. Maybe you need to establish a "Glossary of Terms" so we can all understand one another.

Times do change, don't they ?

All I can say is that thingss change. Sharking ain't nothin like it used to be. SOme of these guys would have had a nervouse breakdown years ago.

Thats very true Lewis. Try concentrating on a shot when you hear some railbird you're side betting with say, "Yeah, he's good....but he ain't bulletproof."
Taking off "home town hero's" can be hazardous to your health.

I've actually been betting a pretty good chunk, on the hill, over 300 miles from home, and shooting at a pretty easy cross-side bank when I overheard. "He makes this, and I'm gonna catch him outside." Yeah, try that one on two weeks after being robbed with a knife.

Nah, you're doing just fine.

If there's anything else you think of, just toss it on out there and everyone will have a say in it.
