Why not Pinegar?

One pretty good exception -- Wolford beat Mario He 10-5 in the Last 32 round at the UK Open two months ago.
and a win over Konrad Juzczyszyn in the same event a year ago
and wins over Mieszko Fortunski, Ruslan Chinahkov and Thorsten Hohmann in 2021
and a win over Sanjin Pehlivanovic at Texas Open 2022
and a win over David Alcaide at 2022 World 9-Ball
and a win over Oliver Szolnoki at US Open 10-Ball this year
and a win over Alex Kazakis at US Open 8-Ball this year

Pinegar is not the answer. Super toxic, super slow, old, not good enough in MC conditions.

We obviously will stick with SVB and Skylar. For the rest of the team, we always seem to make the same mistake of picking a stagnant veteran player over an up and coming young player.

Although they aren't super old (except Earl) guys like Oscar, Corey, Earl, Pinegar, Hatch, Morris, etc are nowhere near the top of their game. They've been playing forever and occasionally have a good tournament result but their glory days are long gone. They are just hoping to go out there, play decent, have fun, and not let the team down.

However, we have a whole new fleet of young guys that are out to prove themselves. Pick one and ride it out for a few years. The first year they will probably be nervous and dog it a little but no worse than the veterans. But I promise you that experience will jumpstart their game big time over the next year. It already happened with Sky, Billy, and Styer. I remember watching Sky in his first MC and he was so nervous he couldn't make a ball. Now he's the best on our team. Billy and Styer weren't anything special when they were first added to the team and boy did they explode over the next few years.

The Mosconi experience for an up and coming youngster is invaluable and will pay off big time in the long run. Veterans on the other hand never seem to perform well. None of them have over the past 6+ years. Even SVB plays at about 75%. Although SVB's 75% is still very strong so we bring him back each year and hope that one day he will come alive.

I personally think Shane Wolford deserves it. He's been playing in all of the major events and doing pretty well but any of these youngers will do. Just get them on the team and give them a chance to step up.

With the Mosconi Cup being in London this year, I (IMHO) think it would be wise for the USA team to have some newer players on the team that will not fold up in the past (Dechaine, Bergman, Reinhold for example) under the intense pressure the drunk and boisterous English crowds will surely inflict. Jonathan Pinegar has always appeared to me to play with a calm and cool demeanor, perfect for the type of environment mentioned above. His Fargo rate is a point higher than Oscar Dominguez', who has gotten the call in the past and is often considered on a yearly basis.

So my question is, why not give Pinegar a shot at it? It couldn't possibly go any worse for him as some of the past year's selections, right?

Opinions?
I think he's worthy of the Mosconi Cup team--but he doesn't chalk his cue enough.

Over the last 4 years, SVB has been around 50%

why not give Pinegar a shot at it?
First and foremost, the Mosconi is an exhibition. Exhibitions are supposed to be entertaining. I can't think of another single player out of the USA that I refuse to watch play.

Surprised no one has really mentioned just HOW BAD his attitude is. I've been around him plenty of times and I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire. Wasn't he the one that threw the cue ball at SVB when SVB was first hitting the road? I know he's a great pool player and I'm sure most of his bad behavior is a product of his competitiveness and desire to win. But the guy is a prick, and that's as nice as I'll be. If he makes the team, I'll be rooting for Europe in all of his matches.

He was in town a couple weeks ago visiting friends. I have heard a lot of bad reviews but he's pretty cool to a couple of the younger players here who hang on his nuts. He stopped in to watch a tourney in which I was playing but I did not introduce myself. He popped into the other hall the next day but was not looking for action. He was pretty quiet.

I'll always root for people to be good humans. All of my experiences around him were about 10 years ago and older, hopefully he's a changed man.

The only player I picked was Pinegar. I mentioned the others only as a reference to some who couldn't hold up to the pressure in past Mosconi Cups.
I gotcha. I don't remember him playing in hardly anything in about a decade, except maybe one event a few months ago when he started to participate again, and he had a big gambling set with a European in that time as well.

I just downloaded the full MR spreadsheet points list, that has about 1000 players on it, and his name is tied for 283. One entry at DCC where he cashed for $300 out of 35 tournaments. Thus, he's barely active at all in MR's eyes. If he was the best player on Earth they would not pick him, and neither would he be a captain's wildcard pick, IMO. We did have an exception for this with Earl, a non-active player being picked. But, well, that's Earl:)

I like this a lot and have written similar over the years. I think Shane and Sky, and the other 3 players should be 25 and under, whoever is the best at that age.

Now with MR having a tour, really if a player doesn't step up to play in the events, they shouldn't be in consideration for Captain's picks, IMO.

I know our talent pool isn’t very deep and top shortstops to low pros have to enter the conversation. If so, I’d rather they only get there on merit of ranking points (even as a wildcard) or show great potential for our future as a possible recurring figure for many years to come even if we are giving them a shot sooner than they are ready for. But I don’t see Henny fitting that bill for me.

They want to put in known sponsored players....some Pinegar will run over.

I like Bergman but he is very against much traveling. Dechaine was strong but don't know about currently. I heard Wolford was being considered. Seems like Billy Thorpe is not being considered. Earl did not fare too well last cup.
Bergman his issues....Google agoraphobia
Guy won't walk across the street if his house was on fire. Wasted talent.

He pretty much gotten crushed by any European he's played. Not all, but most. He's not even in the top 100 Fargo ratings. Josh Roberts would be a better choice. I even like Jeremy Seaman better then Wolford. Just my opinion.
And the truth....

We just aren't producing world class talent.
2 guys in the whole country.
