Why pool table rails are made wrong?

# 10

Cant we all just get along? heh

There is so much information on this forum, it is pretty scary actually. I always considered myself a competent mechanic, but from just 6 months on here actively I can see there really isn't a limit to where we can take this. I do have some techniques that I still use out of habit (not always a good thing) but between so many leaders in this profession from around the country I can only say that I am moving forward much faster now with the help from you all. Sometimes the egos will flare, but that doesn't mean I don't value all the views. Personally, I am not comfortable using #10 in a residence so that limits some of the RKC advice, and with John often throwing down an obscure gauntlet it makes for interesting reading. Hopefully I will get to know more of you guys in person, because as a group we are only widening the gap between the average installer and the elite mechanic by participating. We all have something to share, mine probably isn't cloth pulling or advanced leveling techniques! However if you want to start making prototypes... that is a different story.

Just my 2 cents

Rob Kay

If you glue and don't use # 10 what do you use or do you prefer stapling in homes.

last nite Glen and I spoke on the ph. He uderstands me where some of you do NOT. Hopefully someday some of you guys will drop your swords and hold cups with me, if not, its ok.

Now if you look at the bevel thread again you will see there really is no problem with the design of the rail liner except for the fact that there wasn't a relief cut made for stapling.

When I designed my billiard blocks and made special blanks(several dif styles, it made me think) for them this is the same design I used(thought I created it). Anyways, as you can see, it allows a larger footprint for the rail to sit.(my idea). If you actually look at a rail and see how much of it is bolted onto the slate area, you will see its not much dif than a T-rail.

Sorry for dragging it out but as I said before I like to see what guys think of, as my friend Glen says I stir up shit. Without stirring guess what happens, NOTHING.

glue or staples

In response, I staple whenever possible. Keep in mind that I rarely do any commercial work aside from helping other mechanics who ask. Of course I do use the #10 in my shop for railwork, it is superior. Thinking about making a disclaimer for use in homes since the vapor sticks around and it is an MSDS nightmare. Hopefully they can keep the adhesion with a less volatile mix someday.

Lots of talk about cushions now in the forum. Its time I explain my thoughts on this. Better yet, for those of you who know the score I will let you think on it and see what advantages there are behind my thoughts on why I wrote this thread.

What if there were snooker style cushions(not pockets) instead of cushions that pinch the ball?

John, if you did some research before you thought you had an original thought...like this one, you'd have found out that this idea has already been explored before;) can you tell me which coin-op table manufacture used the flat nosed cushions on their tables?

You know Glen its a proven fact that glue causes memory damage as I have told you more than once in threads that I haven't pursued that area of the market. Assume you can understand the reast then in that area.

Everything I think of is my idea, your right.

In fact, was talking about getting pointers from another guy in here about them. Also as long as I am talking I have an excellent video on recovering bar rails. If anyone is interested you can PM me and you won't have to embarass yourself by responding in my thread comments.

I do appreciate the nearly 200 mil rep points.

I answered your question(I don't know, what it is?), now you answer mine, what was the first table with adjustable feet?

Or anyone else can answer it.

Irving K coin-op tables. Are you stapling the bar table rails, or spray gluing them John?

Do pool tables have feet? I thought they had legs! LOL

Yes, thats the one I'm referring to, thought it was done well, its sad that the Penguin doesn't post here anymore --- as when he did he shared valuable information that wasn't readily available.

I have the BEST way of recovering bar table rails....period!;)

This is the gospel. I use Glen's system all the time, and it's the best I've ever seen period!

For thirty plus years I glued and stapled bar rails top and bottom, not any more. 6-8 staples at the ends, glued in between and your done.

I can vouch for that.

By the way, I'm not embarrassed...I'd like to check out your video John. I think you should post it here so everyone can check it out.

The video is made by Penguin Amusements.

Must have been out for some time.. I liked it, always fun to watch someone else do the work
