Why Say Cheap Action?

i liked that they were trying to hustle me.

Kinda like when Charlie Bryant thought he was doing to Gary years ago when Charlie did the road thing..He got steered to tournememt Billiards when Gasry ran it in Shreveport & it was during the day & hillbilly went in there saying I'm looking for for action on the pool table...Gary was in there tending bar & Gary told him I'll play you...Charlie says i want to bet at least a thousand..Gary said...I want to bet 2 thousand...they said the look on Charlie's face was priceless ..like who is this bartender that's trying to high roll me ...so they wound up playing and Gary beat him out of bout 8k then Charlie had bout $800 left so they played $400 a game one pocket & Gary beat him 2 in a row...Wouldn't of told that story if you could still fly under radar & make money still in pool..since those days are gone it makes for a funny story...lol:)

To me someone coming from out of town looking for "cheap action" is looking to test the waters and hopefully find one or more people they can bust. they start cheap in case they find they bit off more than the can...or want to chew. If they come out wanting to bet big, all the big dogs come sniffin. Now if they are just sitting around bs'ing and ask to play some cheap, they might just be bored and want to play without stress or feel obligated to stay till close. But if they roll into town making that announcement, I always feel like they are looking to hustle. Looking to club all the baby seals with cash in pocket.

So how do you get action when you go into a town where you don't know anyone?

What do you say without looking like you're there to "club baby seals", yet don't want to mess with big Kahunas?

LOL @ Gary under the radar. He was like a Chinese Silk Worm Missle. Very smooth. I'm sure Gary hasn't been a fan of the internet either haha. Good player & a nice guy.

I've made several posts here w/ the subject line "cheap action" in it. But then I specify exactly what I'm willing to play for, that I'll play anybody even, and how long I'll play and references to some people I've played here on AZ. I use the term "cheap action" so as not to fool anybody into opening up the thread expecting to see big action.

I agree though, I despise when people say they'll play anybody........w/ the right game. No freaking kidding! Who wouldn't, lol?

Ring Games

JT,

I'm not a high roller, I just like action.

one more thing I'm a stone sucker for ring games. I can be the weakest player me and 4 champions and count me in, I love them. I'll donate all day long-I just like ring games.

I think most players love ring games. They're just different than 'man v man' pool. IMO it's a format that might appeal to a wide audience of players and non, or casual players because of the all out shooting and lack of defensive play.

"Cheap action" is simply a sales pitch. It's a buzz word just like "New and Improved". Generally, people will gamble more after the ice is broken then they expected to. This is one reason why it is a sales pitch. Get them in and get to their ego or greed and you've gottem. Vegas knows that, hustlers know that too.

I also love this line, "I haven't been playing in a while." I use this one now, because it's the truth! None the less, I feel on any given day, I can stroke close to my old speed.

I am a ring game fan too. I wanna see the harrigan!

That would be a bad move to pull on you. There was a guy in Largo or Clearwater,Florida that I tried to hustle that I had no idea who they were and had to donate and pull up. That guy I believe to this day was you and the other that got me was Buddy Hall. With Buddy I had just come down from NY and didn't remember what he looked like. You (if it was you) looked like a pay-day. Johnnyt

PS: Buddy got me in Oldsmar, FL.

I"m not sure it was Bart. Maybe it was the UPS driver?
