Recently, someone here on AzB pointed out that currently on ebay there is an old Joss cue with a Fellini case for sale for $22,500.

Here's that link: http://cgi.ebay.com/Rare-1970s-Joss...554?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4cf16424ba

Then, I just saw today there is a different seller with a Josswest cue also with a Fellini case for sale, same price, $22,500. :yikes:

Where are these folks getting their pricing from? So many people think if they have something interesting to sell, that if they put it up on ebay, like magic, buyers will flock to them and spend ten times what they should to get their 'special' item. I will tell you that without any doubt, neither of these two ridiculously priced cues will sell at or anywhere near those numbers. No one has been kicked in their head by a mule that hard to spend that much over actual value. I've been involved in close to 1500 transactions on ebay and I know of what I speak.

This afternoon I noticed the following gem that provided me with a chuckle as I struggled with one single question about the product listed. Why? I just can't figure out why this seemingly nice fellow not only designed this, but he then went through the time and effort and cost of protecting it with a pending patent.

BTW, aside from making absolutely no sense to me, it does look like whoever the cuemaker was did a very nice job. On all of the various sections.

Wasn't there something similar to this in the 70's?

What do you all think?

Whatever these people are smoking is obviously a problem for them and sending them insane. If they aren't smoking anything maybe they should start.

There was a guy who had a really cheap import listed for 1,000,000 with "buy it now" some time ago. It ran for several 7 day cycles before somebody hit the BIN button, just for s&g's. Needless to say the seller NEVER posted the cue for more then 3 figures after that. Getting hit with the e-bay vig and having to go through the non-paying bidder process was a good lesson. LOL

It's really no different than a lot of the crap you see posted on there. People figure they have nothing to lose, so why not give it a shot? They just might find some sucker to actually buy it. It's a win-win situation. They have nothing to lose.

Except listing fees. The more expensive they list it for, the more they get charged to list it. (At least that's how it was when I frequently did business on eBay).

"One of the professional players was so impressed with the cue that he wanted to take it and show some of his special friends at the show"

lol yah they were waiting for him on the little yellow short bus :duck:

Apparently from each other. :grin-square:

Patent Pending

The patent rights to that cue are worth about as much as Wheat Bucks.
You could follow through and get the patent, but who would really want to copy that thing.

I don't think his design is in any danger of being infringed on.

The Cue Market And The Stock Market Are A Lot Alike

Henry Tyroone (James Garner) – The Wheeler Dealers
I know the stock market is money and emotion. There’s hope when you start out, greed on the way up, fear on the way down. I know the stock market is people. And if there is anything you can’t sell people I have yet to find out what it is. These people need a reason to buy and the beauty of it is the reason doesn’t have to make sense.

great quote

I like the quote from the character and I like James Garner. I'll have to find the movie if I can.

Replying to the thread: As for e-bay items, things sold here on AZB, anything sold, one buyer and one seller determine the current value of one particular item. I have had people come to me wanting to sell something for many times it's value. I wouldn't play of course but several of the people went down the road and sold what they were peddling to somebody else that shared their opinion of it's value.

I looked at a three or four hundred dollar saddle a few years back. The owner wanted $3500 for it. Seems like a tough call if he should have been bored for the simples or the person buying it on the face of things. Had I been feeling flush at the moment I would have whipped out the $3500. It will never be a true collectors item but I still regret I didn't buy that saddle. One buyer, one seller.

agreed, that's the main reason, I dont use ebay anymore....lol

This brings to mind...

When I was in school I roomed with law students. They were constantly citing weird cases that they had found as part of their ongoing education. The two that have stuck with me throughout the years were.
Sam v Eccles and Hawkins v Mcgee. I cannot remember which was which but they both were great.
In one of the cases, physicians had grafted skin onto the palm of a patient. The graft took. The bad news was that the skin on the guy's palm started to grow hair. The case of the hairy hand.
In the other, a gentleman asked a young lady if she would go to bed with him. Rather than just politely decline she sued his ass. The judge ruled.
"No harm in asking".
That phrase has carried with me through out my life.
Just remember...no matter what.
There "no harm in asking".
