Why Such A Low Turnout For Emerald?

I don't understand the low turnout for the DP/Emerald tournamet. This is the 4th year and about the only ones there are the top ABP players. Johnnyt

Could it be because of the top players? Not trying to be sarcastic here. But nobody likes going "two and out"...against the talent there, most folks who post here would be just that.

A $1400 win payout for the 9 ball event won't get anyone much of a profit that had to travel to the event. Then again most of the ABP pros there are sponsored. Johnnyt

heard they had over 100 players for the amateur event tho goin same time. i think all the pros there probably got their expenses taken care of

There where 11 Different Events. The total entries was over 200 maybe closer to 300

It was just about double from last year.

Most of the Pros are sponsored to be here and its a great promotion for the players and the venue.

Everything is not about huge numbers.

Awesome event. Ohhh and everyone got paid right when they finished in the cash. As agreed.

low turnout+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Isn't this very ironic that the 14 -18 Pro event that was put on by the same people that are trying to hijack The US Open, APB GROUP. I think by choosing not to play in the 2011 US OPEN, because of the money issue with BB, they are shooting themselves right in the foot, by playing in an event with these kind of payouts. I have seen first hand, the ...UPA and now the ABP try to form their own tour and the UPA, went south and I think the ABP is going to end up the same way. We all know who organized both groups with out naming names. When you have a group that is trying to organize something like this, just like the past, you have players making most of the top decisions, is doomed because of conflict of interest. You need to have someone not playing, because of conflict of interest, making the calls. The Pros have the right to be on a board of directors, but let someone neutral to be able to run the organization. I have seen in the past some of the decisions that were made to benefit only a select few. I like the idea of the Pro Players standing up and defending what is their ideas, but you have to be smart about how you do this. It's a shame that Pro Pool has come to this, where the top players can't make a decent living, but the organizations need to look and find out why it failed. The state of Pro Pool needs to band together with the organization that puts on these tournament, instead of making hard line stands that affects most of the players paydays. I think BB, in no way wants all this negative reactions he's getting for his past problems, I think he means good in all he does. The Name " US OPEN " has a great deal of pride, and putting money second, to some. I think now is the time to " SUCK UP YOUR PRIDE " and work with these Promoters and try to give some back, thus making a good event for all and moving Pool forward. What good comes out of this boycotts, everyone loses in the end, leaving another black mark on Pro Pool. I think if Barry ran a $25,000.00 first prize, with $25,000.00 added, he would still fill this event. Wake up ABP, step up as an organization and sit down with Barry, face to face and both parties swallow your pride and give in a little and make this years, 2011 US OPEN A GREAT EVENT, and I think that way everyone wins in the end. I tried hard to find anyone one person that spends more money and effort going into their event, then Barry. Barry thinks each year how he can up his event from the previous year, and tries this each year. you can't find fault with the man when he tries to put on the greatest Pro Pool event of the year in the USA, but work with him and everybody wins in the end, if not, I think there are going to be hard feeling with both parties that changes the way people look at this tournament each year. Stand proud and work with Barry, before this turns into a real ugly mess, as I'm sure it will, if it hasn't done so yet. I don't think most people know what money and organization goes into planning an event like this and the amount of stress that Barry endures, and all the players have to do is show up and play, is that too much to ask ? I know I'm going to get a lot of negatives replies about this post, but the main thing I'm trying to say is " THERE'S STILL TIME ".....if the ABP STEPS UP TO THE PLATE AND DOES WHAT IT HAS TO AND MAKE THIS EVENT HAPPEN, EVERY ONE WINS IN THE END. This is just my opinion and I hope both parties sit down with each other and make this a great event.

Thanks Jen, Thanks so much for re doing my post, I suffer daily from Migraines and have a hard time seeing when I posted this. I had no intent to post that much, but I thought I will express my feeling on the APB, while I had the chance. I hope people that read my post, go into it with open minds and see that all I'm saying is: there is still time left for both parties and save face and come to an agreement and make this happen. I am not bashing the ABP or Barry B. The best thing, imo, is for a face to face meeting and swallow their prides, and both work together for the sport of Pool and the Players, and most of all, the loyal fans of Pool. After the event they can sit down and look back at the situation that they caused by the timing of their demands. I just think they chose the wrong way to go about it. They have a right to be paid in a timely matter, and I think they should have treated Barry with a little more respect and after this tournament adhere to the standards that they want and go on from there. Again, I didn't set out to bash either side, I only wanted to let them know from a fans view...there is still time to make this happen..if not, everyone loses...free entry for past champions--fans--vendors- support--and to save this US OPEN...come on guys, you have the way to make this happen...

I think the majority of people feel the exact same way as you, Duker. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

This is a tough situation that will soon have a remedy. The only thing we can all hope for is that each side will move forward with grace and dignity. And most of all, we want the Open to continue. It's an American tradition not only in the United States, but in the international pool world.

Long live the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship!

Migraines are not fun. I hope you find some relief from those awful headaches, Duker. Stay well!

It's a lot easier to pay a $1400 first place in cash than it is a $40,000 first place. It seems the top ABP pro's are willing to travel for almost no payout. Barry should just make first place $1400 and he would have no worries :)

New Rules

I don't want anyone take this wrong, but changing the rules to no luck will eliminate the field too the top 16 most constant players in the game. Now that being said, I watched most of the stream this week end and the play was not up to standards. A lot of simple shots were missed! Now I hate to get beat by luck as much as anyone, but it's the way of life. But to get the field you have to have a chance and some of the Pro's (lower ranked 32) don't have a chance with the top 16 without a little luck. I understand what their trying to do but I just feel that their hurting the game instead of helping. Also look at the sponsorship, the top players get their expenses paid for the trip where the lower part of the field is made up by out of pocket players. This really hurts if your trying too make it as a pro without a job or sponsor.

We are trying to eliminate the human factor and we are not machines, some days we hit'em good and some days we are a little off. I've been told luck is not a consistent winner, just play your game and the better player will prevail in the end.

That's some funny stuff right there, I don't care who ya are!

I don't understand the low turnout for the DP/Emerald tournamet. This is the 4th year and about the only ones there are the top ABP players. Johnnyt

Well, one reason has to be the money. It was pitiful. The 9-Ball event paid out a total purse of less than $5,000. I've played in amateur events that were richer than that. I thought pro events had to have a minimum of $20-25,000 in the purse to be considered pro events? And even that is pitiful. Where have all the sponsors gone?

I think this shows that you need the weaker players to have a good turnout. If you look, I think all of the players playing, were the players of the newly formed..ABP. Why are they settling for a low payout like this, when they chose to boycott this years 2011 US OPEN, and a $30,000.00-$40,000.00 1st place money. They have everything to gain by playing in the US OPEN, and everything to lose if they don't. I understand it to be, some of the players on the list to boycott, didn't even know their names were on this list. I didn't like the way ABP tried to hold BB and his event hostage, and making their demands or they won't play..just my opinion....
