What is the tours thinking on starting on Friday? Seems to me that a 64 player tournament could be run in 2 days. Maybe their venues don't have eonugh tables? This seems to me to be one of the biggest problems of why so few players attend. 9-5 workers just can't take that kind of time off, esp now with someone waiting in the wings to take their job. Not enough tables... players are not very good and match is taking too long. Hall owners want people there longer, TD doesn't have 9-5 job... few for now

Agreed, seconded and hoping they will re-look that to give the working pros (no, not me) and local B's who just want the experience (ok, me) a cheaper way to play more tourneys.

I don't know where the $6500 (added money) comes from, but if a big chunk or all of it comes out of the room owner's pocket, then I'd think that's the main or even only reason to make it three days. Three days worth of drinks and food bought by players and spectators.

most of the money comes from the seminoles. room puts up 2k.
Fl Tour used to be 2 days long, and drew more players with less added money(used to be 2k added per event few years ago)

I have been to two or three Seminole 10 ball events, and it is tough as I live in MN and have to fly and pay hotel.

If I knew someone there that I could room with, and could fly in Friday night and not take time off work, I would hit almost everyone of these.

Now that I think of it, just the place to stay might be enough, I can generally get one day off. Let me know FL Azer's if you feel like helping. If you shoot me a pm and get to know me I would be a gracious host.

But back on topic, two days means much less expense for those from out of town with jobs.

The way Kevin lays out the schedule is second to none . Players
have time between matches and he always starts and ends at a reasonable
time.
I realize what you guys mean by fridays being hard on working folks but
it seems to be a well run tournament ,so why mess with what is a working
formula ?

I work Monday-Friday. On Friday, I'm usually not out of work until 6:30 on Fridays. This cannot be avoided because of meetings that are held on Friday afternoon. Even if they held the event here in Orlando, I wouldn't make it there on time because of traffic.

I might be able to get out early on a Friday once in a blue moon, but not every month, and definitely not all of the time.

I'm not alone.

Also, starting on Friday forces you to find a place to sleep. If I take Friday off, go to the tourney, pay my entry fee, get a hotel room, and then draw Corey Deuel in the first round... well you get the picture.

If it starts on Saturday, and I get bounced the first day, I can just go home. With the Friday start, I have just incurred a hotel bill.

I wish they would go back to the Saturday start. Other tours use 2 days and they make it work.

Let's say currently an event runs Friday through Monday. For budgeting purposes, let's say I am good enough to "cash" 50% of the time, I am not, but let's say that. I scrimp and save and budget to play in four events around my State, at a cost of roughly $2500.

PER EVENT:
3 x Per Diem (food and lodging) - $100 a day easily.

1 x $150 Entry fee.

1 x $100 travel expenses, if you're driving.

That's a $600+ weekend.



If you make it Friday night players meeting and draw, start play at say 11am Saturday, and play down to those who make the money Saturday.

Now, I can budget for 1.5 hotel nights, and I just saved and entry fee right there, plus food for the extra day.

$600+ just became $400. Four events just became six.


If you make it so that locals, and those within driving distance can show up for a 10am player's meeting and draw on Saturday, and play down to the cash rounds Saturday, things get pretty reasonable. Now I only need 1-2 days of food, and one night, two at the most in the hotel. Hell, I don't even need a hotel room if I am within a couple hours of the event and get knocked out the first day.

That same pro-level, big time 10-ball event has skinnied down from $600+ to $300 or less, and I can play EIGHT or more!! Now THAT I could get excited about. Hell, I might play one or two of those on a whim. But at $600 per, not so much.

It's really a matter of what you want to do with the tour. If you want it to be elitist, "real" Pro only, fine, hold it in the middle of the week, make it invitation only, and charge the players $1000 per entry, and have them play round robin for ten days.

Obviously, before the flamin' trolls come out, I am exaggerating to make a point, which is: If you WANT a full field, and want to see solid local players jumping into the frey, you gotta make it possible. Right now it isn't. :frown:

As I read over that, it's obvious that "playing down to those that cash" the first day is a HUGE cost saver.

If this is a Vegas type deal, where they want to have those "gambluhs" around with cash to blow for an extra day or two, I understand the theory, but you aren't going to get the huge 100+ entry fields like that.

I would LOVE to see FL Tour stops getting 100+ like in the "olden days", and it's not the entry fee that's keeping it from happening.

FWIW, YOU LEFT OUT THE MONEY THAT YOU COULD HAVE MADE WORKING ON FRIDAY AT YOUR REGULAR JOB.

I would like to be able to be able to read the written rules at home, skip the player's meeting, fly into the different Florida airports on Saturday morning, drop my bags at the hotel, walk into the poolroom and play a match. There are advanatages to a two day and a three day tournament. Me, I would opt for a two day tournament. Snagging one of those super cheap Internet fares way in advance of a tournament and only having to pay for one or two nights of expenses is great, imo.

I do believe I would be able to justify going to at least one of the tournaments. Wish they would have a Pensacola tournament..... lot's closer to me, LA, MS, AL & GA maybe even Tn players would come to that one.

The old two day system had it so matches went off as soon as there was a table and there was no telling how long you be there going to be there on Saturday. A few people on here probably remember the Melbourne tournament a few years ago that had matches going at 5am.

TD must keep matches moving. The ones that are taking way to long go on shot clock. A good TD can get 64 players finished in two days, and at a reasonable time.

But the point that most are missing is that players that work M-F can't take a Fri off every time there is a Seminole tournament. With the jobless rate and economy...they better not. Most just CAN'T. You can't make time if you don't have time coming from your job. Players with families need to save their vacation time for family vacations and sick time for when they are really sick. If the players that work can't make many tournaments then it has to be filled up with mostly pros and players that don't have to work for whatever reason...good luck with that=30 player tournaments. However 2 of them are separated into an area that has alot of foot traffic so they are never used for tournament matches. The tournament was ran on 11 tables and had a total of 36 players. Sure, this particular tournament could have been ran and finished in 2 days. But if 60 players showed up it would have been a nightmare to run in two days at this location.

BTW the host location in Goldsboro added $0 to the added monies.

yes they ran uber late and then the morning matches were 10AM. Not everyone can run like meatball and once you factor in a day or two of missed work, well then your even more out of the cash. Lot of car sleeping.

Last years tournament: One-pocket started on Tuesday and the finals was played 8 pm friday night, The Ten Ball started on Thursday and 10-ball final between Hillbilly and Johnny started at 3am Sunday night and was almost 6 am Monday morning when it was finished. So overall, the Carolina's Open is played over 6 very long days.
