Next time, scoop the cue ball towards them on "accident."
I have often wished that poolrooms would mark the floor in some way, maybe with a different color of carpet, and put up signs that say something like "Please stay out of the red areas when you are not shooting." Of course it wouldn't really work, but you could point to the sign and embarass them, which is worth something.

Standing in the shot
I have found that if the ball happens to jump off the table and fly towards the individual a couple of times then they tend not to stand in the shot anymore.

I must confess when I was just starting to learn I was guilty of standing by the pocket while my opponent was shooting. I wanted to see how he was shooting the shot, holding the cue, etc. Of course that was before I read on here how bad a faux pas this was!

The fact is a lot of pool halls have the tables so close together that no matter where a person moves he'll be someones way. Often chairs are taken up by people not playing/waiting for thier match.
To the original poster... hey dude lighten up, if you don't like what you've got change it. Asking someone to move is the logical first step.

I've had this problem, including the other weekend. The guy I was shooting against would stand where I needed to be to shoot the shot. Other times he would actually stand over my object ball. He repeatedly ignored my requests to move.
I would stand there calmly, chalking my cue and wait for him to move. Only when he left the table would I proceed to shoot.
When he started bumping into me, I let the owner know. He wasn't allowed back on that table as long as I was shooting there.

Depends. If they're getting in the way in a pool hall, well, they're just inconsiderate or oblivious. If you're playing a table in a crowded bar room on a Friday Night...honestly, then you should probably reconsider playing a serious game and keep a cool head.
Friday, Saturday nights...the bystanders arent focusing on your shot, they're trying to mack with the drunk chick on the other side of the bar, and if need be, half of them will walk over top of the table to get there. On top of that, they'll probably stuff a few of the balls down their trousers in a pathetic attempt to impress. I say, be prepared for anything.
