will glasses help at ALL

Steve, it must be the best kept secret in the whole world! Forget prescription glasses. Go to a store that sells cheap readers and sample those with a diopter of 1.50 or less. You will find that these focus from about 1-2 ft. to infinity. Get some with big lenses. Use them for
two weeks to get used to them. Don't give up on them . They work. The balls will seem very sharp and things may seem screwed up at first but stick with them and it's worth possibly a whole ball.
I tried that and it just didnt work for me,i could see cueball but nothing else

Over the last 10 years or so my eyesight has been getting worse. I use glasses for reading, and without them I am useless. I have driving glasses that I never wear, and have no problem with seeing anything long distance.

I hear that there are glasses for 2 to 10 feet distances. Has anyone tried these for playing pool, and if so how did they work out. It is getting really tiring of not being able to focus in on a shot especially if its more than 2 feet away.
I have the same problem. I now where Multi-Focal Contacts. Better than glasses for shooting pool. My game has exploded. Still use readers for most other tasks.

Doc, if you don't mind my asking, what's the going rate for Lasik surgery these days?

Mine was $5k for both eyes. Less than a pool cue made it a steal :)
I had the Presby Lasik which not only fixed my distance vision but also prolated my cornea so I won't need reading glasses as I get older.

I have a bit of dry eye so I take Restasis drops twice a day and keep some moisturizing drops in my pocket for when my eyes get dry.

PM me if you want my Surgeon's info. She will be happy to talk with you about the procedure.

Got a pair of Decots. Cannot use them, they seem off center and everything is smaller than should be. So, I send them back.
I have to go to the optometrist again to verify the prescription before they will try to fix it. I know for fact that PD is different than what I need.
Decot doesn’t have money back on lenses which is the main cost of the glasses.

I will let you guys know how it goes.

I just got off the phone with Dr. Gordon Harrison. Certainly wish I had called him before buying the Decot. The only concern that I have with the frames that he sells is whether they will stay in place with a lot of head movement.

Personally. i incorporate contact lenses into my training. Whenever I'm practicing at home ill remove the contact lens from my non dominant eye. This trains my dominant eye to do all the work with zero interference from my non dominant eye. So there's no confusion with each eye telling me different angles

I may try this tomorrow at the poolhall. I recently gotten new contact lenses, and see alot better. I'm normally right eye dominant, but my new contacts lets my left eye see better than my right. So, my brain switch to my left eye as the dominant eye, and I suspect this screws up my sight picture.

i have 2 sets of lenses that dont work,no refund, the lenses seem very thick

I shoot with my chin on the cue.

I need bifocals and I like the lineless bifocals that change focus gradually as I raise or lower my head but I had problems using them for pool because they had to ride high on my nose in order for the focus to be where I needed it without having to either raise up or tilt my head so far up that it hurt my neck.

I got shooting glasses from Decot and had the lenses made so that I could see best from 2 to 12 feet. But I still needed to wear a sports strap to hold them up and be able to focus while down on the shot and the strap was uncomfortable. Plus.. when the game was over I had to switch glasses in order to be able to see for other tasks and the glasses took up a lot of room in my bag.

I ran across an item called Wedgees ( www.wedgees.com ) and since they only cost a couple bucks I ordered some. They slide on to the ear piece of the glasses and wedge in between the ear and the head and keep the glasses from sliding down.

Now I wear the wedgees on my regular glasses and am able to see just fine to play. They raise the glasses high enough that the focus is right without having to tilt my head to the extreme, and I don't have to carry the extra pair of glasses in my case (and they do take up a lot of room). I also don't have to fade the discomfort of the tight strap around my head.

The Wedgees are so comfortable I frequently forget to take them off when I'm done playing. I'm really sold on them.

Yeah, they are stupidly thick and are too far away from the face which lets me see the edges of glass by the nose it was a waste of money so far. We will see if they resolve the situation.

Glasses are good for day to day stuff. But for pool, if you can, go with contacts. I only wear my contacts when I play pool.

I guess I'll share my experiences. I just got new specs 2 weeks ago. I was having a hell of a time seeinglong cross table shots. I got new no lines. My old ones were also no lines.

The big difference is the lenses. I had Varilux lenses in the old ones. They had an even transition from near to far. They were hellacious expensive. I got Nikons this time. They have more of a spot type transition (for lack of a better term). You have more of a zone focus and rapid transition between zones.

The Nikons were just so much easier to shoot with. I have also went to a more upright shooting position. I can see the shot better and I'm shooting better. Mind you I'm a beginner. So take some salt with this. I alsoset up my shots and raise up sometimes to double check the shot. With the new specs I can see any misalignment easier.

These are my experiences. I would suggest a long talk with the optomatrist about lens brand selection. Going with the Nikons was a real good choice for shooting pool with. I may try some single visions later. But fornow I'm doing just fine with the Nikon no lines. I wish you the best in your search.

Oh yea it sure is easier to shoot when you only see 1 object ball not 3 or 4!

Steve, I tried both contacts and glasses. Wearing contacts, it dries up, glary and takes awhile to settle the vision. I settled for glasses. I have a 0.25 astigmatism and -100 normally. I can play pool without one, but my eyes tire very fast. My opto suggested to lower the power to -50 for my pool cue and then move the focal point a bit higher. That solved my problem and I'm happy.
