Will SVB eclipse Earl?

After watching, what I would consider, the greatest dual performance of two players ever in a U.S. Open finals, with SVB winning. The only question remaining is "Will Shane eclipse Earl's record of 5 U.S. Open titles?"

Having just won his 3rd in a row, and 4th overall...My answer is... YES!!!! Not to mention he is only 31. A lot of playing left to do for Shane.

Maybe the question should be WHEN instead of WILL.

If I'm right (not sure... so correct me if i'm wrong.... wait this is azbilliards so someone will. lol) Shane played his first Open in 2007 and won. If that is correct, Shane has won 4 of the 8 he has played in. That's a .500 batting average for U.S. Open victories. That is AMAZING!!!!

I believe it has already been stated...

I believe Shane's first US open was 2003...

Don't know if he played any between that one and 2007 though and he wasn't considered a pro until 2007ish I think...

The bigger question is will he even get the chance?

How many more years can Barry keep pulling a rabbit out of the hat and players accept the payment slow roll? Eventually the music is gonna stop. If Shane wants to win six he better win the next two and he may not get a shot to do that unless things start turning around.

I think Barry will move heaven and earth to hold the 40th next year even it means doing it in his pool room, the parking lot at Denny's or wherever. I just cant see it not going down. After that though....

He got 25th in the 2005 open and 33rd in the 2006. IMO I would consider him an amateur until 2007, which was his big break out year. If you consider 2007 his first pro year, then you could say he's won 50% of his opens as a pro.

Yes, he'll pass Earl in the US Open but Earl has six WPA World Championships and Shane has zero. Until Shane does something about it, he can't logically be compared to Earl.

Barry has said his son will take over after Barry retires. Are you a doubter?

Yea... I didn't wanna touch on this cause everyone is... but, Barry has hit the snowball effect. He has let so many people down along the way that HE will never be able to take the U.S. Open what it should be. NO ONE trust him anymore, and rightfully so. After the match you could hear background talking in the accu-stats booth and some woman was telling how he threw a wod of cash at Corey Duel and told him he would never play in HIS U.S. Open again. Hope it's not true, that would be sad.

I just checked; here are Earl's and Shane's ages when they won the Open:

• Earl -- 23, 26, 32, 36, and 39.

• Shane -- 24, 29, 30, 31.

So Shane's pace is ahead of Earl's. It'll be interesting to see how they both do going forward.

After that, maybe we can talk CSI into taking over the open. After all, nobody in the business does it better than you, Mark, and Ozzy.

Its certainly possible. But anything can happen. Tiger was widely expected to break Jack's record, but has not. Records are there for a reason. It takes a tremendous talent and hard worker to break them. That Shane is, and if anyone can break it from the current crop of players, its probably him.

One thing Shane has in his favor, is if the event goes to sh!t due to Barry and non- payments. If that happens, it will most likely affect the international players. They won't come to future events, but American players still will. The fields will be smaller and weaker, and we all know there is not another American player that can touch Shane.

If on the other hand Barry wins the PowerBall, the field will have all the TOP Chinese, Taiwanese, Filipinos, and European players. Then it will be even harder to win.

The only differance wa all the best 9 ball players were considered American not true today , and some of the best now sit at home in Asia and watch

Here's a pretty amazing statistic: Beginning with Earl's first U.S. Open win in 1984, Earl and Shane have won nearly one-third of all U.S. Open's played (9 of 31).

CSI seems to have shifted to invitational only events, so I don't know if they would even be interested in an open event

He'll get replaced? Barry...,

Lets hope that someone buys the rights to the US Open before it gets ruined, so that we can continue to see the level of play that was displayed this year!

Hats off to the players! Congrats to Dennis O! Take a Bow SVB!!!

Better for most of them to sit at home than play in a loaded field and know they are probably playing for second place.

Whenever I see this posted (and it happens just about this time every year) several questions always pop up in my mind:

I wonder what the rights to hold an event guaranteed to lose money are worth? (Because doing an event with 70K added is a sure loser)

Would people give a shit about a 10-20K added US Open held in a pool room and streamed by one or two cameras? (Because thats about all I can see happening if someone did get the name.)

Is there any real value in the name now after all of the messes of the last decade or so? (I think there is but it would be hard to put a price on it)

I suspect that if Barry Berhman came out and said he would give the name to anyone who would put on a $70K added US Open next year he would have zero takers.

But if you really want to dream...dream big and imagine if Matchroom decided to do the US Open. That would be awesome.

Since we are dreaming, 80k added, 40th year and 40K for 1st.

And your winner for the 40th Annual U.S. Open 9 Ball Championships is:
