will this case protect my cue?

Its not a bad looking case at first glance but when I look at the details I wonder just how good of a case it is.The fit and finish seem to be lacking...slopy stitching exposed material edges on the interior,and the single stitching on the hinge would make me pass on it.I took a quick look around and spotted this http://www.billiardwarehouse.com/cases/porper/Porper_2x4-signature.htm

Porper makes a very good case that is built to last and will do an excellent job of protecting you're cues,that and its a few bucks cheaper than the one you found on e-bay.

ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!!! This is an even better deal than the guy on ebay is offering. I know a couple of people that have this exact Porper case model. It is built like a brick s**thouse. Don't worry about the vinyl instead of leather -- this is NOT a CHEAP-LOOKING production -- and, as lun@ticfringe implies, will last practically forever.

Im looking for a new case for my new cue and I need something that will protect it but I really dont want to spend $500 for a case....or should I? is it really worth it go pay top dollar for a Marnak or something?

I suppose it all depends on how you look at things. First of all, I would look at what you paid for your cue. If you have a production cue $500 or less, the case on eBay will most likely serve your purposes just fine.

If on the other hand, your playing cue is a custom cue why would you put a nice custom cue in a low end Asian import case. I mean, a good custom case will last a life time if treated correctly. While the import cases will become kinda shabby, and most likely need replacement in two or three years.

So, I guess it depends on many things, but for me, I will always buy a quality item over anything else, even it I have to save to buy it, because it is cheaper in the long run.
 
I've actually been wondering a little bit about the protection offered by different cases lately, though I'm not in the market for a new one. Does anyone have any experience with certain cases not adequately protecting their cues?

I think I've heard of Instroke cases being run over by cars and stuffed into heating vents, with the cues coming out fine. Won't get that with a tube case! But what about other cases? How about the really custom ones, like Jack Justice, etc...? Can you run them over? How much protection do you need?

You know, I was going to throw my case off the roof tonight into the street, but I guess I'll hold off until someone else tries it first!!;-)
 
Hi everyone... I'm from Italy and as I've ordered a new Carmeli that will be ready in june or july I need a case with more space... Some in the hunt of a 3x5 case with tubes that allow to put the shafts and butts both ways.. I like instroke cowboy style.. Any advice is appreciated.. .

Definitely do not buy a J&J case. I bought one to keep my cues in when i go out. My Instroke looked too flashy and wanted to be inconspicuous. I purchased a Schon and after about a week it scarred the butt plate by leaving a ring around it. Keep in mind though that this is the model with the springs in the bottom of the tube. I was very pissed to say the least.

I think you can get good protection for a cue with the lower priced cases. I have a new Whitten 42F which cost over $400 and I use an old It's George case that I paid $100 for. I could take the Whitten to the pool matches, but then i'd have to worry about scratching or scraping my case so I use the older It's George and it works fine and gives my cue excellent protection.

Cleary,

It does depend on what kind of cue you are putting in it, like some of the other threads said. If you would like an affordable case around the price on the one you pointed out on ebay, the send a PM to "Chrisonline" here on AZBilliards and I'm sure he can set you up. I bought a leather Vincitore 2x4 from him and it is just great. The shafts can go in either way. Here's a pic. Sorry about the size of the pic.

For the money, I believe a vincitore case can't be beat. I have owned 3 and have never had a problem. All have held up great and are still in use today. I have heard they are made by instroke, and as long as you buy one with grade A leather, you will be hard pressed to find any difference.

personally I'd buy a instroke premier from neilsons billiards on ebay. He will give you a price you'll like if you email him. Great to buy from, very fast shipping, and well packaged.

I currently use a Porper 2x2...for a vinyl case, NO complaints at all. I feel it has always given good protection. Well, one minor complaint..the holder holes enlarged a bit, and shafts would drop in too far. Had to use pliers to get 'em out. (actually used pliers on the joint protectors) So, on my wife's suggestion, I dropped marbles down the holes, pushed them into place with the shaft tips. No more problem.

Next up...waiting for my 3X6 justis to arrive. Gawd, I'm becoming a junkie! :D

I owned a porper case like the one listed at Billiard warehouse and it's a nice case that will do a good job of protecting your cue. The more expensive cases are nice, but I don't think they will protect your cue any better than a case like the porper at Billiard warehouse. I own 2 Whitten 2x4 cases and I've owned a Justis case and I don't see any difference in cue protection vs the Porper case I think it's more in the looks and the materials used to build the cases.
