Windex

I'm a fan of IPA lens wipes but any kind of wipe with at least 70% IPA or higher will do. Figure the Revo/Cynergy wipes are just IPA and a fragrance.

I clean my shafts using one of those wipes then a microfiber cloth to dry off. I've also used the microfiber and a small spray bottle with 70% IPA in it.

Edited to add: I believe 70% IPA is fine for this. It just takes longer to dry than 90%. Use a microfiber to dry off if necessary but it will be dry in less than 30 seconds either way.

**The ingredients in Windex typically include water, 2-hexoxyethanol, isopropanolamine, sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate, lauramine oxide, ammonium hydroxide, and fragrance.**

It does seem to have some type of Alcohol, but at what percentage? It does not say, but there is other chemicals too. Is it really worth possibly damaging a $300-500 shaft instead of buying some wipes? I bought a box of predator wipes for $25-30 two years ago and i still have over 90% of the box. You can get some 90% wipes on amazon for about $10.

It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that ping.
Walmart (or other vendors) have Zeiss brand wipes. They are about perfect for the job. Decent size and pretty inexpensive. Like $3 or 4 for 80 of them.

Yeah those are the ones. I got the cheap 80 pack (more cost per wipe though) because I figured the big one would go dry before I used it up. I only generally use 1 wipe every few play sessions.
I always stick about a half dozen in my case and end up giving most of them away. When home I use a Bounty paper towel and 91% isopropyl alcohol.

AW's are the thing to use. Some window cleaners have ammonia which might damage cf if used all the time.
At one point Windex could be had with alcohol or ammonia. You had to watch which one you grabbed for what you were using them for. Brian.

I know for a fact that using either one is not a good alternative for moon floss.

Yep. I cleaned the fireplace glass with the wrong one. Put it back up. No problem. a few hours later, it just shattered into thousands of pieces. who knew...

Long ago a cue maker stated that he only recommended 90+% alcohol be used to clean shafts. With 70% alcohol you are rubbing 30% water into wood fibers- not a great mix over the long term as some of that water is being absorbed by the wood fibers immediately- I have stayed with his theory for over 20 years with excellent results.

You can distill the 90% even further with salt. Think I read it here. Anyway I've been doing it for years. Gotta be close to 99% - going by smell.

I've cleaned wood shafts for yrs. with a magic eraser/90%alc. combo. Works perfect, cleans the wood and doesn't open the pores.
