What Male & Female Pro Player deserve the Title of Greatest Pool Ambassadors.

The Pro pool Player who always have Time for Fans, are Great Sportsman, Good Role Models for Kids, etc., etc., etc.

Also Male & Female Pro Player WOULD NOT deserve the Title of Greatest Pool Ambassadors, because of Hi Jinks, Bad Sportsmanship, etc., etc., etc. You know the Bad Boys & Girls of the Game... ;)

In my opinion, Jeanette Lee and Mike Massey.

Allison Fisher and Efren Reyes surely also merit mention here as wonderful ambassadors for pool.

Good choices.

Although maybe they don't have quite the name recognition, I would add Tony Robles and Tommy Kennedy as ambassadors of the game as well.
Both gentlemen and great players.

Nick Varner was one of the greatest ambassadors and most "professional" pool player I ever saw. He was always very loyal to his sponsors and enthusiastically supported whoever supported him. He was also a superb gentleman and conducted himself as such in every manner. He gets my vote.

Equal to Nick is Steve Mizerak. Should I really go into detail on Steve? He is a TRUE pool playing success. When you have cue sticks with your name on them selling K-Mart you know you've made it. LOL!

ABSOLUTELY!

Efren? As an Ambassador? Don't think so. As one of the GREATEST PLAYERS of all time? Sure, Efren all the way. Hell, Efren spots the world. But an Ambassador would further the sport through unselfish promotion, extra-curricular activities, demonstrating the all that is good in the sport, being a role-model and spokesperson for the sport, etc. I may be wrong, but I don't expect to see Efrens teeth (both of them :p ) on a Wheaties box anytime soon.

But I would vote for Mike Massey, Ewa Mataya-Laurence, Jeanette Lee, Robin Bell, Jim Rempe, Ray Martin, Nick Varner, and a few others.

After watching Mike Massey in a rack your own event for $10,000 get 5 nine ball breaks in a race to 9 against a then little known Asian Female pool player who could not speak english overly well (and therefore not effectively combat his cheating) I can not disagree more. As a trick shot artist he knows damn well how to fairly rack the balls and how instead to rack to make the 9, he chose to cheat and that kind of action is not lost on those who watch it.

I cannot agree more about Jeanette Lee though, she is probably the most important pool player in regards to promoting the sport and bringing exposure to it. No other female comes close.

My pick for a male player? Tough one, I will say Steve Davis, his shift from Snooker to Pool gave our sport alot of exposure and respect and he is a well liked and very humble guy who wins and looses with grace. He helped more in Europe then America but then Europe is an important market.

Efren? As an Ambassador? Don't think so.

Efren's ambassadorship for the game has been primarily in Asia. He is not just a magician as a player, but he has helped finance the rebuilding of villages in the Phillipines out of his own pocket after some natural disasters.

Still, even in America, Efren's smiling face in competition, the joy with which he plays, and his "I got lucky" attitude when interviewed after a win add up to a guy who adds some charm to pro pool.

Giving a few bad racks hardly erases the impact of Massey's worldwide ambassadorship for pool.

Whenever and wherever he appears, Massey brings joy and excitement, and gets people enthused about pool. His electrifying presence, his oh-so-genuine smile, and his unparalleled showmanship serve our sport well.

Few in our sport's recent history have enjoyed a greater worldwide appeal.

Not even close to Nick IMO. Did you ever meet Steve? My memory bank is coming up with a fairly pompous guy who didn't have much time for anyone. I wasn't around him much but that's what I saw when I was around him. If I'm wrong & maybe caught him on bad days then someone please correct me.

He was not giving a few bad racks, he was racking himself with a gap between the 9 and the corner ball so that the 9 goes straight into the corner. It was about as cheap pool as I have ever seen, especially considering who it was up against. There is something to be said about sportsmanship and in that instance he had none. An ambassador of a sport should play fair and with respect for the game.

May I ask who he was playing against?

Either way, he cheated on the racking, and we both agree that it's unacceptable.

I'm just saying that his countless worldwide tours and his charismatic showmanship have done a lot of good for the sport, and that I fel he demonstrates a sense of obligation to his sport.

I think we already have them in place, It's going to be Mike Sigel and Loree Jon Jones, and if ask me you couldn't ask for better ambassadors of the game. They love to be out there in the spotlight!

Mike is the best interview you could hope for and will promote the game any chance he gets, remember an ambassador has to talk up the sport and I don't know a better talker in the world then Mike:D

I don't think Efren would even want to have the responsibility, that goes for a lot of the players, Balukas didn't want the pressure of being the ambassador to womans pool, she didn't like the spotlight.

It takes a certain type personality.

I don't think someone that charges $25 for their autograph & flat out refuses to sign a childs case (who had EVERYONE elses autograph) unless he gets his $25 is a great ambassador.

Yeah I met Steve with my dad in Nashville, TN. I was about 10. He offered to play me a game of 8 ball. He broke and didn't make anything, I ran out (we had a small crowd around us of course) and he was making all kinds of funny jokes about how he was being hustled, etc, etc ( I wasn't quite aware of who he was at that time although my dad was)...and then he asked some person who had a Polaroid camera (of all things) to take a picture of the three of us. I still have it hanging on my refridgerator door 17 years later. I remember him telling me to finish school. He was super nice to me and that was my only experience with him. He spoke with my dad years back about joining the Senior Pro Tour and was very nice. Maybe you did catch him on a bad day. We definitely all have them.

I believe he was playing Ga-Young Kim.

Anyways my vote for greatest pool ambassadors would definitely go to Nick Varner on the mens side (with Robles a close second) and on the womens side I would pick Jeanette Lee.
