WNT 2024 Hanoi Open (8-13 Oct), Winner $30K

Skyler making a bid to get an automatic spot in Mosconi. Styer and Oscar had their chance.

Woodward is at $4,000 in prize money so far in Hanoi. Tyler and Oscar both topped out at $2,000.

Woodward started the tourney $7,000 behind Tyler and $1,500 behind Oscar.

He has now surpassed Oscar, but needs to get to the semifinals to pass Tyler.

Up next for Sky is FSR.

Round of 32.

Skyler, SVB and Fedor are already on Team USA. Two of Dominguez, Styer and Thorpe will surely round out the team. I felt going in that Dominguez and Styer already had the inside track for a wild card, but now that each reached Stage 2 in Hanoi and Thorpe has not, each has probably locked up his Mosconi spot.

Skyler is playing great pool of late, coming third at the European Open and fifth at the US Open. Despite having a subpar performance at the 2023 Mosconi Cup, he's usually the most dependable member of Team USA and is two-time Mosconi MVP. He has a brutal draw, but wouldn't it be something if he won the Hanoi?

Right. What I meant was, Sky has a chance to get into third place on the points scale so he can used two wild cards instead of having to use one on himself.

I know Dennis Orcollo can't come to US still due to the visa problems, but why doesn't he play in match room events in Europe and Asia?
Dennis has had that option since he was deported a few years ago (long before he had to deal with ACBS/WPA/Heyball issues), and in 2022 he did play in a UK Open (lost in round of sixteen) and the World Pool Masters (lost in quarterfinals). He's still a rock-solid player but, based on my watching him on the China Open stream in September, my opinion is that he is just a shade of the Dennis of old and that his chances in a Matchroom major might be less than you think.

That said, speaking as a fan, I would love to see him regain his form of old. He was always one of my favorites to watch.

Sorry, I misunderstood you.. Your point is well taken. Wish Sky the best tomorrow.

There is potential it could be an all Filipino final, all USA final, or all Spain final. (other possibilities exist).

SVB was down 2-0 vs Candela. Then won 10 straight! Lots of break and runs. Seems to be more of them happening in this tourney.
Svb showed his usual weakness in my book he’s to aggressive sometimes. It was tie and he played a long carom that was no where near automatic instead of choosing to play and easier safe. That’s what put him in the hole. Then he showed his strength by never giving up and had great break and runs to get it back. Great match to watch.

I wasn't entirely clear, I realize now.

I also think, as you do, that Tyler and Oscar deserve the other two spots. No one else has done the necessary work.

The commentators didn't accuse Fedor of petulance. One of them raised the possibility but he and Jeremy Jones then shot the notion down. They were just puzzled, but leaned toward the view he was probably sick. They noticed the fan, too.

Shocking that the building didn't have better AC.

Clearly, Fedor has to manage his condition better. And that means not being outside in those conditions as much.

Styer was playing great. Up 7-3 vs big Ko. Then a lapse or two and Ko played great. Went up 8-7 and won 10-8. A shame. Styer was playing fantastic but just can't seem to close the deal.
I had to listen to it again since I was awake for about 5 minutes the first time I heard it. The commentators were understandably confused and they did leave open the option for there being some "petulance" at play in Fedor's decision. No big deal. I just would have figured JJ would have been confident in knowing that something physical would have to be bothering Fedor for him to ever concede.

Here's the concession:

imo he's favorite for the title from what i've seen. closed out against krause with 3 BNRs + a solid last rack. and krause is TOUGH action these days. looks like the shane train is rushing full steam ahead now.

biado also looked strong against manas. what a match! and what an atmosphere. watch it if you missed it. biado is second favorite for me (but i haven't seen chua or lil ko much).

dennis doesn't want to blow his chances with WPA because of the heyball. he's making a push in the heyball tour (and might become a serious contender there, he's still insanely accurate).
