WNT 2024 Hanoi Open (8-13 Oct), Winner $30K

chua has played two crazy good position shots that i hope make it to the highlight reel. high difficulty level

11-5 Chua

Successful breaks -- 10 of 10 for Chua, 2 of 6 for Biado
B&Rs -- 3 for Chua, 0 for Biado
Missed shots -- quite a few for both

Ko wins 11-2 despite being successful on only 4 of 11 breaks. Strange.
Really tough to pick a winner between Big Ko and Chua, and I'm a big fan of both players. They're great representatives for our sport.

They've each won multiple major titles, but not a Matchroom major (unless you count the World Pool Masters invitational, which Ko won in 2023). Ko Pin Yi has won the World 9 Ball Championship when it was hosted in Doha, Qatar, so you could argue that he's the slight favorite in crossing the finish line. FargoRate also puts him as the slight favorite (840 vs 825).

Chua has been on fire though, and he was successful on 10 of 10 breaks in the semifinal. I don't think he's really been tested in this tournament, and you could argue that he's due for his first Matchroom major. Will he hold his nerve? It should be a heck of a final, and we are privileged as fans to have these two fine players matching up for the Hanoi Open title this year.

(I'll put it out there that I think Chua will win!)

Great finals for pool fans around the world. Americans must watch on a VPN or pay the predatory website DAZN, currently with a class-action lawsuit for their deceptive practices, to watch the live action.

I sensed some tension between the Matchroom CEO and others during the opening remarks. Must be stressful to have back-to-back events.

The audience in Vietnam is so welcoming to pool. It's nice to see. Good luck to both players.

Ko Pin Yi walked out first, and then came Johan Chua. Johan immediately walked over to Ko to shake his hand before sitting down. That was nice to see.

Photo opps before the match. Phil Yates, Jeremy Jones, and Karl Boyes in the commentary booth. Phil said both players have the same birthday, May 31st, 3 years apart with Johan being 32 and Ko being 35.

Karl said there are 3,000 people in the audience and another 500 waiting outside to get in. Wow!
