Women in the open.. Other side of the coin

this is all nothing but politics and bias...i could care less who plays in what event where but to say the sexes are equal and then only allow one of the sexes to compete in the other sexes events is WRONG!!!

Is the men's event really a "men's" event, or is it an open event? Is the reason the women are allowed to compete because of a change to the "men's" event, or because the women's tour has said they could this year?

I could see the arguement with woman playing in the open this year and men not in womans events but the us open hasnt had a full field in how long??????????? I have been a regular attendee for 10 year straight and I dont think a full filed has happen yet. The same fans seem to show up every year and hardley ever see a new face so this says alot about our favorite game and hobby. Barry is trying to make something happen postive in pool and as I watched last october and I honestly said how long can this event go on with so little support. All of pro pool needs more fans and what ever gets them to show up would help. Even the sbe isnt the same anymore without the womans event like they use to have. Maybe there will acually be some real gambling also at the us open because it seemed like only Jeanete Lee was the only one gambling big there.:)

But really, who's saying the sexes are equal? A few guys on an internet forum who want to post their personal opinion. And if you read closely, 99% of them admit that even if girls could in theory be equal... right now they aren't. For whatever reason.

The guy who decided to let them play never made any public statement that they're equal. Just that he's going to let them play.

The WPBA never made a statement that they're equal. Quite the opposite, they went out of their way to say they know women don't play at the top men's level.

So, if nobody who matters is saying the sexes are equal, do you still think it's wrong?

WRONG!

Mildred "Babe" Didrikson Zaharias, considered by many the nation's greatest female athlete, fit all those descriptions in her lifetime.

The one thing she wasn't: boring.

Zaharias' name has come up often lately because she's the last woman to tee it up with the men at a PGA event. In January 1945, she played in PGA tournaments in Los Angeles, Phoenix and Tucson, Ariz., qualifying and making the 36-hole cut for all three of them.

You are correct of course about the "Babe", I should have stipulated that no woman has qualified for exempt status on the tour since the change to an all-exempt tour with no weekly qualifying.

Of course, YOUR post is wrong in that "Babe" was not the last woman to tee it up with the men, Annika did so at the Colonial in 2003. And Michelle Wie has also. But they got in on a sponsor's exemption, not through qualifying.

In any event, while it seems many debate whether women should play on the PGA tour, there is no debate as far as the tour is concerned. The tour's position is whoever you are, if you can qualify then come git it.

I'm getting dyslexic, I could have sworn that read:
Topless Ladies Events.
I'm thinkin, I'm in.
And then we could have the Mens Speedo Event. And for the most part, no one will have to worry about the women entering.
Except for maybe Olga, from the Russian Womens Wrestling Team.

The only thing I originated in my post was the word WRONG. The rest of it is from a newspaper article. So you are still the one who is WRONG and I am not wrong for posting an article to prove you were WRONG that came out before the other women teed it up with the men.

(I am just kidding with you by saying you are WRONG)

Right!

.......:grin-square:

I agree, I have thought about this myself since more mens tourneys are allowing the ladies to play why won't they let the men play in theirs. Also some of these events even give a bonus tothe top female player. So just a crazy example of why I don't like this is if all the ladies but one get knocked out in the first round and then the last lady gets knocked out in the 2nd round she may get a $1,000 bonus. Lets say Silver gets knocked out in the 3rd round after beating the last female standing she will make more money than him.

So I can beat out out of a tourney and you still make more money than me??? If the ladies want to play in these events and the promoters want them to play in the events why not just let them play their way into the cash like everyone else? I know if by some miracle the WPBA let the men play in one of their events they would not offer a bonus to us.

Just my opinion and I am sure it will piss a couple of people off but if its equal rights an all that then let it all be equal. I am not a sexist just fair.

Bonuses for highest finishing woman are unfair. Women's only events are fair.

Why?

Because women are still treated differently in life and in the pool room and as a class of player they are not only weaker they are "handled" differently.

The way forward is to allow them to have their own organized events that nurtures them and also allow them to participate with the best players in the world until such time as it's clear that they have achieved parity.

This is no different than all the amateur tours and non-pro handicapped events.

No pro is allowed to enter these events but any amateur can play in open pro events.

I do think that there should be a professional tour which players must qualify to participate on.

AND

I think that if a player, male or female, qualifies for the MAIN pro tour then they have to GIVE UP their participation in all LOWER CLASS tours and tournaments. (of course this also presupposes a pro tour which could sustain a certain number of professionals)

But for any OPEN event such as the US OPEN in 9 ball, 10 ball, 14.1 etc....

Anyone should be allowed to play without conditions.

Why not just let the organizers decide?

Mens event for mens.

Women event for womens.

If they decide to make it an Open even then then let men, women, elderly, child, trans, whatever else there is take part as long as they have the skill and come up with the entry.

I actually hope that in the future all events will be Open events. Why should pool follow in the foot steps of others sports having gender distinction when this is the one sports where the gender really need not matter! Pool is for all.

I have beaten Line

Where and when did you beat her ? - If I recall that was you sitting in the chair while she was running like 40+ balls on ustream - If I recall you had a post crying about losing to her and still having 4 break and runs in the match.
