Thanks to Bert van Manen on FB here is list of the shafts used by the top ten 3-cushion players. Are the days of wood numbered?

Another point is that all but one is using a low deflection (AKA squirt) shaft.

I was going to ask a while ago but forgot.... Predator has both a standard deflection and low deflection Revo shaft for Carom. I was actually wondering if any old school ivory ferrule pool players might pick up the normal deflection Revo Carom shaft to play pool with.

I guess it didn't even happen in Carom, let alone Pool.

I remember 50 years ago we had the same discussion about tennis racquets, and that many of the top pros were using wood racquets because they grew up playing with them and that is what they were used to. Now you occasionally see one at Good Will or a garage sale.

Considering the consistency, stability, and durability, CF might not be so expensive. Compared to wood shafts LD, CF is about 50% more, but if you have to replace it because it got a nasty ding you have probably spent more. If you like a conventional maple shaft, it takes a few more replacements to pay off.

Who cares ... People get to caught up in all that ...
 
I have had wooden shafts for 15 years or older without dent and no warping. Had them since I was 15 years old ... I always took care of them. I go to pool halls and see guys walking around with cues screwed together out of their cases walking around like goofballs... Rediculous .. what do you expect being so careless ...

I never leave them screwed together if I'm not using them ... It's not painful to unscrew them and put them away until you need them

Kielwood shafts are almost as expensive as CF and still get dings, and are affected by temp & humidity, I don't think they play any better than a low deflection wood shaft but there advantages to CF.

I had SD 3c Revo for a bit, it went back to seller coz of defect and I did not rebuy.

I didn't like it for 3c at all but it was good for pool.
