World 10 Ball Championship 22-26July2019/ Winner $30K

People are strangely loath to give Filler his due. The number of negative comments against him in the YouTube chat is bizarre.

I can see how his cockiness might rub some the wrong way, but in the end, his performance of late has been the stuff of which legends are made.

I am a fan of great play, period! Watching the emergence of this spectacular young player has not just been entertaining --- it has been breathtaking!

I've been attending pro tournaments live since 1976. One of the greatest joys for me has always been watching the rise of new superstars in our game. Watching the rise of Mike Sigel in the late 1970's was one of the most thrilling things I've ever beheld as a fan, and right now, Josh Filler is enjoying a meteoric rise that is eerily similar to that of Sigel.

None of us know how much Filler will accomplish as a pro, but the sky's the limit and I'm sure enjoying watching him, and feel lucky to have the chance.

Shaw is just as cocky (actually, worse) yet people like him.

The most similar phenomenon seems to be in Nascar. People love building up the old guys (Petty, Earnhardt) and get off on bashing the new ones (Jeff Gordon, Joey Logano) even though they all act the same. Then the new guys become old guys and the cycle continues.

The Other Guys

Styer and Masato Yoshioka are the underdogs, the other guys.
Like the conversation killer that someone mentions and others will say quickly change the subject or walk away. The lowest ranked players in last 16 no one gives a chance of making it to last 8.. But they are the achievers of this event upsetting many notable players.
They play in last quarterfinal about 5 minutes from now in the nightcap match , the match that if folks miss or falling asleep over, it is ok :grin-square:
If either of them somehow win this whole thing, it will be like Raptors winning NBA or like Daryl Peach winning World 9 Ball championship one year :grin-square:

One of them will join three proven giants of the game in the semis and will have a chance to write a great story. Wish both of these fine players the best of luck.

Asians continue to perform well on American soil in the biggest events, as history repeats itself.

US Open 9-ball last four(3 Asians, 1 European):
Jeff DeLuna
YL Chang
Wu Jiaqing
Josh Filler

World 10-ball last four (3 Asians, 1 European)
Masato Yoshioka
Ko Pin Yi
Ko Ping Chung
Josh Filler

Once again, Filler will have to top the Asians in the final rounds to snap off the title. It won't be easy. These guys are all in really good form.

As Scarlett O'Hara said, "tomorrow is another day."

The thing that struck me about filler is how often he would leave a long last shot taking what the table gave him and then centerpuching the pocket.Kid shoots a really straight stick.
