World 10 Ball Silence

Matchroom would not be that petty. Only Mika's US Open victory (not a Matchroom event either) kept Darren out of the Mosconi team.

Really? Since when does a US Open trump a World Championship? Not to start a debate on which field was stronger but are there printed criteria as to who makes the team and who doesn't? Of course my statement was pure (ass)umption with a capital A but I wouldn't be surprised to find a tiny grain of truth in it. On the other hand Daz did win a 10 Ball event and the Mosconi Cup is contested in 9-Ball so maybe only 9 Ball events and ranking tours count there.

Anyway, like I said, I faith that Darren will assure himself a spot on next year's team.

So, every other member of the WPA determines their players from within their system? Even the other ones who receive money from their governments. But the BCSP is a special case?

All they are really there for is to hold qualifiers?

You still don't get it do you? BSCP is an NSA (National Sport Association) under the POC (Philippine Olympic Com) and PSC (Phil. Sport Com). All of them are Philippine Government FUNDED. They exist to serve the People of the Philippines that pay for them to even EXIST. They are suppose to be unbiased in their operations even with nay-sayers. They are to just do their job in developing the sport and holding fair qualification/selection tournaments to all citizens for country representation. WPA has nothing to do with that. BSCP, being an NSA, has to exist FIRST for the country then apply for membership to whoever/whatever.

Special case? They're there to serve the citizenry FIRST. If not for that then they have no reason applying for membership with these international associations. They develop then participate. Whether this participation is to gage the effectivity of their programs, for national pride or for diplomatic relationships. Bottomline is Service to the Nation FIRST. Not service to the International Community and definitely not self-service!

Primary objective is to develop the sport here in the Philippines then all other functions are just a product of this objective.

There are criteria but I don't think that you will find it in print anywhere.
No1 and No2 on the Euro Tour rankings at a predetermined cut off point are generally accepted. That is why Mark Gray was on the advanced list this year. However, in reality Matchroom choose the players for both teams so the above criteria can be over ruled.
One could venture a guess on the reasons for the composition of the teams.

Europe -
Mark Gray was No1 at cutoff date.
Tony Drago - MVP at last year's event and a local hero at the venue
Ralf Souquet - A Mosconi Cup without Ralf would be unthinkable. Earned his place with his usual string of tournament successes
Niels Feijen - Probably the exact same credentials as Ralf, just different events.
Mika Immonen - Their performances left little to choose between Mika and Darren Appleton. Mika probably got the vote because of his previous Cup experience. The responsibility of a continent can make many first timers freeze.
Alex Lely - non playing captain. Popular, knowlegable and articulate and a certain motivator

USA -
Shane van Boening - No explanation needed
Rodney Morris - Sidekick to Shane when they won the World Team Championship but an outstanding competitor in his own right.
Johnny Archer - Same credentials as Ralf and Niels
Jeremy Jones - BCA Open winner and next highest ranked player.
Earl Strickland - Puts backsides on seats. Corey Dueul doesn't.
Nick Varner - they don't come any more experienced than this man. He will be stocking up on the Wrigleys for this contest.

If the primary function of BSCP is to serve and develop Philippine pool, they can only do so from players who participate in their tournaments and the programs the BSCP promote.... per APBU or applicable POC/PSC (and eventually WPA) regulations. Maybe that was the idea of Mike.

But there is an issue of the boycott. Could the boycott have been resolved if complaints were filed with the APBU or the WPA? Instead of texting, mud slinging or senate investigations?

So now I'm confused again.

So that issue needed to be resolved first. They can't even p;oint out that they were boycotted from the start because when they held a Qualifier for the Guinness Tour Leg the BMPAP Players participated. That was when the serious problem regarding participation started. How? First, they excluded a lot of qualified players who were there. Players like Gandy Valle who was an Asian Games Gold Medal winner. Secondly, they kicked people out of the venue of a supposed Qualifier Tournament for National representation. Such are supposed to be made available for the public to view. Thirdly, they changed rules in the middle of the tournament specially when their boys were only finishing second to the BMPAP Players in the just then announced "Round-robin Format".

Complaints were filed and not acted on.

You will find the criteria in print if you know where to look...certainly with regard to the European team.

This is from my printed copy.

1) No 1 ranked player on the European Ranking after the Eurotour
Dynamic Netherlands Open 2008

2) 3 players out of the European Ranking - ranked within first 16

3) 1 player chosen by Matchroom

According to these rules, Souquet qualifies under No 1 and Gray, Feijen and Drago under No 2. Immonen comes in as the invited player.

Matchroom always have a difficult task in deciding who to invite to their events, we all have our own ideas and favourites but at the end of the day it is the organisers who have to sell these events.

Gray, an unlikely hero as he is a snooker player, held on to the lead in the European Rankings for most of the past year.

You couldn't have a team playing in Malta without Drago who apart from being a local hero, is a do or die player who makes for great television.

And finally you can't say anything about Souquet, Feijen and Immonen that hasn't already been said.

I believe that Matchroom have done a great job here and this team will do everything in their power to ensure that the cup stays in Europe.

I for one, will be in Malta in December and hope to be cheering this team on to victory.

Suggestion to all Players who are due monies from the recent World Ten Ball Championships.

It has been noticed that only players who have expressed their concern, regarding prize payments, in internet forums are the ones that have so far been paid. We still received e-mails requesting assistance regarding payment of prize money. As an example, David Reljic of Australia hasn't received his as of this posting. He has sent e-mail communication with RAYA but hasn't received favorable action.

Lee Chenman of Hong Kong was mentioned here in the forum and he finally got paid but not until then.

Bail Bondsman Wanted

If the two BSCP officials do get arrested in connection with Alex's libel case then they will need bail if they are going to continue processing the player's payments.

Perhaps the WPA can guarantee the bail bond too.

If this is about that sharking thing that they were saying Alex did, I feel that Alex would have the upper hand. I think most if not all would agree that Alex's actions during the game could not be called sharking.

Therefore Alex's case is strong.

Monski, Alex's cage truly holds water. I do not know why there was a warrant out for Makabenta's arrest today. He probably snubbed the hearings. I am not sure if the judge already handed down a decision which is this warrant of arrest.

But Dough, Makabenta's arrest is not what bothers me because he can always post bail. What bothers me is that Pagulayan sued for P6M or $120,000 and if Makabenta is ordered to pay Pagulayan, it may interfere with his already problematic obligation to pay the WTB players.

It looks like it's pay-up time not only financially for Makabenta.

Exactly! Even the Tour Promoter, Guinness (and ESPN), agreed that there was no malice nor bad intentions from Alex and their reinstating Alex as part of the Tour expressed their opinion on that issue. They even gave Alex a permanent slot in the Guinnes Tour.

how true is it that local players who play in the Bacolod Cup (?) or other BMPAP tournaments will be banned from playing in BSCP events?

whats the logic in that?

how is that good for the sport?

Can players file a complaint with APBU and WPA? At least a clarification is in order because I don't get it.

Where'd that info come from?

a friend sent me a text message. I just want to know how true this is...

Translation:

Notice to players of BSCP and PBDF. The players who will join the Bacolod event if BMPAP will not be able to join BSCP and WPA events. They will not be sent to APBU events as well. This is the new policy that came out of the BMPAP boycott of the world 10 ball. You are free to join whichever association you will side with. You can not have it both ways. The WPA also wishes to inform the players that you must have been a member beginning January 2009 in order to be qualified to join tournaments and other WPA events. If you are interested please have your names listed with....

Did BMPAP have their players boycot the WTB? How were some BMPAP players able to join the WTB?

I thought some players chose to boycot the WTB and they just happened to be BMPAP members... it was still termed BMPAP boycot though.... by virtue of the association to which the players belonged.

So which one is it?

Can we get an official word from APBU and WPA? specially in regard to this text message?

I hope this is just a rumor...

I saw the video, that's not sharking, he is just happy for his spectacular safety. He can't contain himself. If the crowd and Guinness love it, BSCP should be happy.

I think it's time that the WPA or the APBU made some kind of ruling on this. I certainly don't think that any organization can lose all it's best players and then continue to say that it best represents the sport.

Imagine how far tennis would get if the top 20 players started protesting and were told they have to either accept the injustice of quit? I doubt that very many promoters would continue to pour money into the events.

I also doubt highly that Matchroom will stand still for promoting a World Championship that doesn't include the top Filipino players. Is the WPA prepared to cause a rift in the Matchroom/WPA relationship because they refuse to deal with the Phillipine situation.

So the World Number One Dennis Orcullo, as ranked by the WPA, will be forbidden to play in World Pool Association events because of a power struggle in the Phillipines?

Is Makaneta's position elected or appointed? If elected then surely there is something in the bylaws that allows the membership to call for impeachment and a new election.

This is getting ridiculous.

that's why a clarification is needed. this came from a text message but it implies that the WPA supports this by allegedly wanting to inform the players that they should be a member of the BSCP by Jan 2009 if they want to be part of the world championships.

The WPA can confirm or deny this. I dont want to believe all texts messages I see. So it would be nice if something from the APBU or WPA will be put on record. This assumes of course that people/players seek clarification about this text message.

No ruling needed. Just clarify if that is their stand on the matter since the message did not come from APBU or WPA.
