World 10 Ball Silence

It's now 3:46 pm, Monday, Manila time, but I still hear crickets chirping...
Whoops, time's up!!! It's 5:08pm here in Manila and the banks are closed. Anybody received their prize money yet?

A confirmation with the Pulpul Camp as of 5:05pm. NO money but..........a new promise that he will be paid on the 24th. Yen was the one who told Pulpul's Manager that.

Raya could get out of their dilemna for a relatively low sum of money. Around $130,000 would get them off the hook.

From the $400,000 they owe WPA $20,000 ? defer payment.

Pay off Mika and Charlie ? two independent in the quarter finals. With Sanction Fee
And 30% Withholding Tax they would split $13,200 between them.

Payout 17th place onwards. $180,000 less SF and WT leaves $119,700. This now totals just under $133,000 but with six players still unpaid.

WPA Boards members Mr Tu and Gre Leenders could persuade Wu and Liu plus Feijen and Van Den Berg to accept deferred payment.

Pulpul could be ignored on the grounds that he is a BMPAP member.

Raya will know that Darren Appleton had already accepted the IPT deferred payment terms and probably would do so for his first prize.

A horrible scenario I know, but Raya would be back in business and the world would forget.

If they don't pay and we allow Raya/Yen to stage another billiard tournament for any amount then pool deserves to be in the gutter and it's players deserve to get walked on.

If they don't pay and the WPA ever again sanctions a tournament without haveing the full amount of the prize fund deposited in a WPA bank account prior to the event then the WPA should be dissolved completely.

Now, if they said that the money would be wired on this day, the receivers still won't have it for a few days. The very fact that there is even a chance that payment won't happen is so very heartbreaking.

It really is sad. Sad that they didn't pay on the promised date and sad that people saw our concerns as bitterness.

I still suspect that Ian has vested interest in this WTBC for backing it up like he did. He should've listened to players and if the voice came out as one for the majority of the top players then maybe the concerns are worth listening to. Regarding funds release for the 2006&07 WPC, the story is very different. There was Matchroom who owns and runs the show so they guarantee the payment. Remember Doug's mention, in one of his posts, about money not coming until 3 days before the end of the WPC? Well, that really happened as Perry was one of the people approached for a loan. What does this tell us? A loan was drawn to cover last year's WPC. A loan that needs to be paid. With this year's proceeds? But even if Yen didn't get to pony-up for the WPC then Matchroom ends up paying the players. Well, the WTBC doesn't have a Matchroom that guarantees the payment. That's the big difference!

That was my math in one of my posts (in jest reminescent of banking system 10 years ago) but I do send funds Nationwide AND Worldwide and the funds get to the recipient in a matter of minutes for local and next day for international. Pulpul should've received his if it was wired today, as promised.

Thats weird....cause Alex wires me $$$ from the PI and I get it on the same day as when it was wired because of the time difference???? If not, no later than the next day??? Wiring money is pretty instant unless for large sums of money...but even if the money doesn't clear right away...the bank will tell you if it is pending clearance. The year Alex won 2nd in the WPC (2003) in a matter of 2-3 days after the end of the tournament his money was IN his bank...it just took another 4-5 days for it to clear.

I wish and hope for ALL the players to get paid, and it's sad that they have to worry at all. Especially now, when the day Yen/Raya/whoever boldly stated the players would get paid has come and gone, and nothing yet. It is almost laughable.....but I still hope that ALL players will get paid ALL their monies.

It's been 2weeks since the WTBC concluded. Today was the promised day of payment as announced at the players' meeting. No payment has been received by, but instead a new payment date was given to, the 4th Placer, Oct 24.

Hi Edwin. What does Philippine Senate President Manny Villar have to say about all this? Has there been any conclusion reached in the previous senate hearings?

The Senate Hearing is still on-going and this development just strengthens the GAB's stand concerning the need for permits/licenses and prize money in escrow.

MBV will be disappointed and furious but we'll work on this before there's a need for him to.

Thanks. I guess that would be the appropriate response. No need to burden the guy. God knows he's got enough to think about as it is.

**sigh** what a sad day for pool. it's the IPT all over again.....

Did I just heard somebody said, "I told you so!"?

I guess Roy won his bet then huh? So sad, I would rather see Roy lose for the sake of all the players who participated...

Roy is probably too much of a gentleman to pursue the matter.

I know pro9dg, Roy would rather lose his bet...

It's Tuesday morning in Manila, a day after D-Day, anybody got paid yet? I read that Pulpul got another "promised"
date, Friday, Oct. 24. By then, he'll probably get another promised date for the next promised day, shades of KT...

The sun comes up, the sun goes down
The bankers all are out of town
Tomorrow is another day
They'll still be asking "Will he pay"?

This does not look good. Organizers who can not make good on their commitment will lose credibility and good standing in the community...

That's a nice piece there... I would have preferred "The boss is (or bosses are) out of town" rather than refer to "the bankers" since they are there to facilitate payment. Joke joke (not a critique...). I really like what you wrote...

All lines are made up of 8 syllables!
And I kid you not!

:)

*the words "they'll" & " "still" could be
syllabicated as 1, respectively - i think :)

bump, any news? no one heard of a WTBC player getting paid yet?
You need to remember that most of these players are currently in the US Open. They may not want to break their focus. Let's see what happens when the Open is over.

i'm also concern about them, this may distract their concentration while playing, this is no small matter, especially for the World Champ Darren.

i really hope for a happy ending for the players.
