I am going to cry - we have to wait until tomorrow to find out the results of the Schmidt-Harriman match? :(

Harriman has beaten Schmidt approx 200-165, so it's Kempter vs See in one semifinal and Harriman vs Ortmann in the other.

Then I wish the grand old man, and last year European 14-1 Champion, Oliver Ortmann, the best of luck!!! (He had his 40th birthday just a couple of weeks ago)

Some facts about Oliver Ortmann:

41 times German Champion (THAT's strong, considering that there are also players as Hohmann, Souquet and Engert ++ competing in these championships, and only 3 each year...)

28 times European Champion! (Say no more!!)

World 9-ball Champion

Won 13 of the about 70 Eurotour events during the years.

His results among the top 3 in straightpool European Championships during the years: (It's an incredible list)

2006 - 1st
2001 - 3rd
2000 - 1st
1999 - 2nd
1997 - 2nd
1996 - 2nd
1995 - 3rd
1994 - 3rd
1992 - 3rd
1991 - 2nd
1990 - 1st
1989 - 1st
1988 - 3rd
1987 - 1st

Highest run 326 in straightpool and a 13-pack in 9-ball!

Talkin to Danny now. he says he's on "cloud 14.1".:D

That is great news! For those that believe SVB is the best American pool player out there today, stop and take a second look at my friend, Mr. Danny Harriman. He IS back and over the past year he has been virtually unstoppable! Good luck, Danny! We are so proud of you!

Nice post Roy.

PLUS his 2 U.S. Open 14.1 Championships.
Engert and him were my favorites.

Danny showed incredible heart in his win in the quartferfinals. Schmidt tested his willpower immediately, opening with about 60, and Danny answered it with a tidy 64 of his own. Schmidt applied the pressure once again running about 70 on the very next inning, but Danny's spirit wasn't broken, as he ran about 75 to lead about 140-130 after two turns each.

Each was dealt an absolutely horrible roll. Schmidt made a jump shot on the eight ball with a full cue only to scratch into the side cross table, and Danny made a paper tin cut of a nine ball into the bottom corner, only to scratch three rails into the side.

Harriman was the steadier player down the stretch and was the deserving winner, but Schmidt certainly put him to the test, a test Danny passed with flying colors.

Ortmann was in dead stroke yesterday, making a 131 against Babica and about a 110 against Orcullo, and he will probably provide another rigorous test for Danny, but Danny's playing great, so who knows how it will turn out against Oliver.

Geez...I can't believe they're allowing jump shots!

How much time is allocated on the shot clock?

I guess now that its over, I'll vent my personal feelings about the use of the shot clock at this event.

Firstly, its a 30 second shot clock, and once they begin clocking the match, regardless of how many points left are needed, u get 4 45 second extensions.

Usually, the shot clock punishes the "comeback" player. In the case of the kempter, hohmann match, kempter had a slow pace throughout the first 3/4 of the match. By the time hohmann mounted his comeback, the commencement of the shot clock was announced. What I find really riidiculous is that the score was 171 to 174. With the game almost finished anyway, i felt the implementation of the clock at that time was innapropriate. (i think a shot clock at ANY time in straight pool is innapropriate).

Anyway, thorsten had just finished a rack, and as they were racking the balls, he took his 1 time allotted bathroom break. Upon returning to the table, he was informed that he was already on the clock. He hates the clock more than i do, and thinks a straight pool game should take as long as necessary.

So he hurriedly approached the table and scratched on a very routine breakshot.

I just lost my respect for Hohmann. :( Really, jumpshots in straight pool?!

Poolmouse

Really? Than u must have lost all respect for john schmidt, Oliver ortman, danny Harriman and nico otterman too. They, like Thorsten, jumped balls with a full cue before Hohmann did in the event.

Anyway, I don't really think anyone cares what u think, don.

This from a guy 2 years running, couldnt get through my straight pool qualifier without an incident and being accused of cheating. Perhaps in the future, u can modify ur behaviour and start earning tje respect of ur peers

Jump shots have been used in 14.1 forever (with a full cue). Are they allowing jump cues?
