Where is Efren in all of this? He won two years ago, and seems to always go to the 8-Ball WCs. ...is he a no show?
I saw his name on the first day on the "live score" page of the official site. He was leading 5-0 or something. But then the page never got updated.

Wu Chia Ching is in fact defending his title....

Shock News
Wu is not defending his WPA World 8 Ball title

The World 8 Ball Championship will kick off in Fujairah without defending champion Wu Chia Ching. There is no official reason but it is believed that the teenage prodigy has a long standing family committment

But players who will be cueing up for a share of the $110,000 prize money will include reigning World 9 Ball champion Ronny Alcano. He will be hard pressed by his compatriots Efren Reyes, Francisco Bustamante and Dennis Orcullo.

Play starts on 2nd March and the final of the 64 man event will be on the 8th.

There are ten international qualifying spots up for grabs and these will come from ten events held in Fuairah from 21st February onwards. They all carry low entry fees and an additional bonus for the ten winners will be a place in the Middle East 9 Ball Open
Championship which finishes on 28th February.

The qualifiers are open to all comers and details can be acquired by emailing a request to pro9wc@yahoo.co.uk and copy it to ahmed9888@hotmail.com.

Defending Champion Chia-Ching Wu of Taipei is showing grand form, winning his match today against Carlos Alburez of Guatemala 8-0. Other internationally renowned players who had successful efforts today included Thomas Engert (GER), Oliver Ortmann (GER), Niels Feijen (NED), Thorsten Hohmann (GER), Hui-Kai Hsia (TPE), Nick Van Den Berg (NED), current World 9-Ball Champion Ronnie Alcano (PHI), Dennis Orcollo (PHI), Francisco Bustamante (PHI), and Marcus Chamat (SWE).

ive been invited the last three years, and had to turn it down the last three years.problem is ive been overlooked by the billiard industry, ive never had a sponsor and might never get one ,oh well. maybe if i win a big tourney like the usopen it will happen lol.with no sponsor its not to easy to go over there on what poolplayers make.anyway if i land a sponsor soon i will start playing all the tourneys and let the world know guys from the us can play a little.p.s. i know everone says american players are slacking but if their is any asian players that means you to efren, that would like to play 1000 points of 14.1 then maybe we can hold the one on one championships right here in pensacola fl.anyway i feel better now ive got to woof a little lol, talk to you guys later.

What exactly seems odd?

think that some of the groups haven't played all their matches yet..
or maybe they're not full?
or...
don't know...

to be honest...
I'm a bit dissapointed by everything...
Expected a bit more live feed from this championship...
No where to find any decent info up front.. or even during...

But for today I'm sorry...
Can't post anything until tonight...
Need to play tournament director today at the BPPPA ranking event...
Talk to everybody later.. ;)

taken from Niels Feijen's website..

First round win in Fujairah.

Hey,

A little different then last year.. they play the first rounds also in the daytime

Had to play my "General" from my bundesliga team in Germany, Gunter Geisen . Always have to get used to the tables and the settings in the first match but found my rhythm quickly and won 8-2. Don't play until tomorrow 16:00

Just chilling by the pool, shooting some hoops and getting a lot of rest. Laters

What?! Did he get addicted and overdid videoke-ing? Please tell him that Edwin is looking forward to his being here for the WPC. Tell him to practice his singing too so that we can keep up with Morry.

Hahaha no... wish it was that.. would be better for him...
But I'lll tell him when I see him Saturday..
