If this event was pre-IPT, how big would this have been? I think they did a great job for players and viewers. Too bad they didn't get 500-600 competing.

We finally have something positive to talk about in pool. This must be the best 1st event ever!!!

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I think all the trash talkers about this event when it was announce should man up!

i dont know about trash talk, i'm sure there's plenty of it out there. but i think the pool community would be wise to offer as much constructive criticism as possible to new event production people. it'll help keep them sharp. now that galveston may have been somewhat succesful (depends on who you ask) others may try and put together similar events. but if they're sloppy, we'll be back at square one. but if everyone demands improvements, then event producers will come around and give people what they want and sew up the loose ends. yada yada yada

While I agree it was a good tourney and I enjoyed sweating it, it seems everyone is just sweeping all the lies an falsehoods under the rug.

They promised a lot more money than they actually paid out. The team event going from guaranteed $50,000 first place to $9000 is quite comical. I cant believe nobody is raising a little hell about this. I'm sure all of the same people will chime in with the "at least they are doing something for pool schtick" and I agree they are doing something, but why do people promise stuff if they can't deliver?

The answer to that question is that in the pool world, they can. Pool players are so happy to get any payouts that they won't stand up for themselves when a promise or misleading payout structure isn't adhered to. It's just like all the "added" money tourneys that pop up that really aren't adding what they advertise. I guess if people let you get away with that kind of thing then keep doing it.

If my employer told me that I got a $50,000 bonus at the end of the month if I met a certain quota and then changed it to $9000 because they realized they were losing too much money, I would sue somebody and tell them to stick it up their ass. But that's just me, carry on.

Do you work for AIG

I hope that Taylor Road have not been to damaged (either financially or emotionally) and I know that they are intelligent enough to learn from their mistakes.
But most of all I hope that they do as they did and do it THEIR WAY again.

Close those ears to all those armchair critics and barrack room lawyers.

They know that they can make it better and it is their cash that they are putting up.

I am sure they over estimated the number of people for teams and non pro events. They took a huge lose and still, from the sound of it, gave payments. They did a lot of $50,000 first and then allowed players to vote on new structure. That is fine with me. It would suck having winners walking around with all the money and the guy in 4th a handshake.

People say they are thinking about puting it on next year again. I hope they do and that it is run better and more people show up. I enjoyed the streams even with the low quality.

Though those are my wishes, my emotions, my brain says I'll bet the first one on the good action list $100, that Taylor Rd does not have a second event in Galveston in 2010. PM me if interested

I asked this before and I dont think i got an answer. What does Taylor Rd normally produce? Or were they formed for this event?

Fuzzy picture or not, I enjoyed the stream and the chat. Such a pleasure to watch players of the highest caliber.

I hope it becomes an annual event...

Of course, watching these folks makes me wonder why I bother...

Oh yeah, because it's FUN!

I don't think the dollars were the main issue this time

If they keep losing $250,000 a shot (just an estimate) I am thinking they will begin to rethink their way.

I really don't think that the dollars lost will be the determining factor. I'm sure the promoters found out, like everyone that tries to put on all but the tiniest events, there is a hell of a lot more work and aggravation to putting on an event than they first thought. Were the personal rewards worth it and worth doing it again? Only they know.

We will probably never know but I'd like to know what happened to the Asian TV deal which seems to have went away after it was supposed to be a done deal. That should have paid a fair sized chunk of the bills and might have made for a totally different event and profit picture.

The people in Taylor Road Productions seem to be both hard headed business people and dreamers. Sometimes one side holds sway, sometimes the other. I don't think they really know what they will do until they rest a few weeks and think about it.

With regard to the Asian TV deal as i understood it, they BOUGHT the IPT's TV time in order to put the event on TV. Then whoever they hired to do the TV Production couldnt get it together. Jim Wyche went home after the first day it was so evident they weren't gonna ever be ready to produce a "TV Quality" production. So in other words they PAID for the time and then failed to have a capable production crew to get a return on and protect their own investment!!!

The above is what i heard and read and if accurate, imo, the single bigest fumble by Taylor Rd.

possible but unlikely

I don't know any of the details so anything I say is purest speculation but I don't think that Taylor Road was shelling out net dollars to get the Asian deal. Pool is big there and like the sports that are big here can command real dollars from the networks instead of the other way around.

It all comes down to viewer numbers. Pool gets very low numbers here and most advertisers aren't eager to have their ad's shown during a pool broadcast so the networks tell them what it will cost them to air. Nascar and the NFL get huge numbers so they negotiate how much the networks will have to pay to air their events.

Why would Taylor Road pay for the privilege of broadcasting in Asia? I don't know of them having any business dealings there or any reason to raise their profile there.

Just my thoughts and I could be miles off base but I think the Asian deal would have put cash into Taylor Road, not taken it away from them. They were supposed to have a delayed broadcast deal with Versus which I assume went away also. That was more likely to mean shelling out some dollars but would have raised their profile where it might do them some good in the future.

Ok It looks like most my comments should only apply to the Versus deal where their money obviously went poof. As far as the asia deal-still a major boondoggle not to have anything to broadcast and it would seem likely to me, someone is in violation of a contract and that means lost $$. Im very surprised that the IPT still had air time coming at this late date also.

This was a pretty good "First Dance". If they have the event next year, I'll bring a team of broke d*cks to compete, play in the amatuer/pro events, mixed scotch doubles and enjoy the festivities. It wasn't what it was advertised, it wasn't perfect; however, I for one applaud the effort and hope they put on another dance.

I loved the stream. I thought watching... man there isn't that much difference. Watching these guys play that many games I noticed they have good and bad matches, have trouble the same places, sometime large swings before recovering. I feel better about my level now. I think someday I might pull and upset on one of these guys. Hoping it will be at the Open.

It was a success for the most part !

I tip my hat to taylor made..With this ecomomy plus the lack of money in pool already....I tip my hat for them to even try and pull off such a major event...being well informed before hand that they were putting forth alot of work & effort knowing that they probally would take a financial bath & their only hope for a payday was down the road......They have more pool " BALLS" than i would have had to take on such a task..may ya'll next endeavors be blessed 10 times fold.
