Thanks Terry
Nice to be encouraged my someone who is held in such high esteem as yourself.
Just for the record, I was responsible, together with local promoter Ahmed Ibrahim, for starting things off the aforementioned 8 Ball event in the UAE.
Alex Lely collected a kilo of Gold as the inaugural winner.

In Pool Town we will be setting up a table where you can play a Race to Two against a top professional and have your 15 minutes of fame recorded with an audience, a referee, TV Conditions and TV Commentary. This can be taken away on a DVD complete with sleeve notes and pictures.
All the professionals will be committed to making regular visits to Pool Town.

I am happy to say that we can add Jay Helfert to our roster. No doubt he will be an asset to our team.... and still a few more to come.

This sounds like it will be one hell of an event!!

If there is anything I can do to help promote this event, please don't hesitate.

Rack your own balls but referee to inspect and approve before rack commences.

Why do players have to rack balls for themselves? Wouldn't it be better if the referees do it? Do referees cost too much?
My concern is that ball racking skills will have big influence on outcome of matches. Not all players are rack mechanics...
Neutral rackers all the way...

The cost of referees is not a factor. There will be plenty of them there. Joe Tucker's book of racking secrets plus little cheats that I have been shown over the years will ensure that the refs are educated on these matters.
But ultimately this is a Players event and they will be asked to comment on any pre tournament issues and these can be slated for the Player's Meeting.
If it is inconclusive, I will decide.

How are you determining who is a professional?

Players have been invited to join from all over the World based on their published performances either internationally or on their own home turf. On the basis of this I have considered them to be of sufficient ability to regard themselves as being of professional standard. On this basis around 350 players will receive invites. Around 90 of those will be US based. There will be players like Zaeb Dwab from Jordan and Naif Aljaweni from Saudi Arabia both capable of performing at World level.
But remember that the pool world doesn't end at the Statue if Liberty.

If anyone can display the right credentials then they will receive an invite. But before I get the unfunny “I beat the mailman' posts this is a serious project for me and my brilliant team.

Doug, Joey and Roy,

Best of luck on your endeavor. Pool needs these types of new events. Hopefully it can blossom into something lasting.

I know that some players have already confirmed. But if you have not then you should remember that there a regional quotas where there are more players invited than there are spots available. So if you delay your response then you may have to enter qualifiers to reach the final stages. You may also miss out on a Player Subsidy Payment.

This sounds real cool and truly international, wish you all the success.
Shame there are not qualifiers like the IPT had.

"All 9 Balls must be potted to claim racks." does this mean no combos?

Maybe this should be made into a sticky before it gets moved to the tournament announcement section?

This list needs Chris Bartram imo.

Nothing Wrong At All!
Sorry but I am not one of the supporters of televised 10 Ball. People like Matchroom Sport have spent 15 years into educating viewers on the rules, tactics etc of 9 Ball.
There is more spectacle in 9 Ball. Break and runs, safety racks, intelligent combos, golden breaks all create variety. They make the viewer believe that he/she could play the game.
Of course, 10 Ball has it's disciples because 'it is a harder game'.
I say if you want a harder game then go and play snooker.
But it is television that drives the sport and TV moguls tend to like the status quo.

Personally I love the idea of potting all 9 balls for 9-ball (no combos or 9 on the break), but there should be some kind of reward. Either a monetary reward ($500ish) or ball-in-hand for early 9-balls. I play ball-in-hand for early 9-balls with friends and it's a great way to get the most out of every rack. It helps keep the opponent from feeling cheated on luck shots if nothing else.

9-ball with combos and 9-on-the-breaks is too easy for professional pool. Plenty of pros can string close to 8 racks on a good day.
