World record for chalking

So we have things like most racks run, best TPA, great shots. But some basics of the game like tip maintenance and chalking just don't have a good rating or tracking system.

I present to you my new stat for chalking, and the current world record holder. I counted about 45-50 chalkings of the tip before the first shot, with two different cubes of chalks and both hands being used.

One of the funniest things I have seen in a match, especially when you look at the shot he took after all that work and then went on with more dual handed chalkings. If Mel Brooks did a movie about pool, this would be a scene in it.

An excellent first entry for the record.

Rafael doesn't do tips like most people. I saw a new tip of his that had less than a dime's thickness on the sides. He gets incredible spin on the ball with that. He was recovering from a miscue that had cost him the previous rack, and I'm surprised that he hadn't already redone his tip by his first shot.

Cocaine is a hell of a drug……
Too much evidence to disagree with that.

Out of curiosity, why would tip thickness impact spin assuming his tip still uses the standard dime or nickel radius?

Things go better with Coke
Gods honest truth I’ve never done coke once in my life. If I did, I’d not lie about it. Truth is is scares the hell out of me. I’ve never seen it end well for anyone, and I don’t have the best heart-knowing that, I always just “Said no”.

I just like that saying and back when this was played there was lots of coke in the pool rooms everywhere. Lots of old matches you can notice how the players are hyper alert or jumpy or twitchy. Was a different time in pool.

Best

It is my understanding it is heroin you need to steer clear of. An addict told me once he knew what he wanted to do with the rest of his life the first time he used a needle.

And the kicker? He said it never felt the same way again.

Scary.

I bet i did a metric-ton of blow in the '80's. ;) Buddy of mine flew for Carlos Lehder(look him up) and we got the best shit at the best price. It was fun for a couple yrs but i walked from the entire scene and never looked back. Stuck to cold beer, good whiskey and some killer bud occasionally. Got tired of goin fast. ;)

Mid '80's I played in a four handed rotation game(Chicago AKA 1 and 5) for 3 days straight until the coke ran out.

Feels like something great is about to happen but it never does?

So I heard...

The only drug I’ve ever done was MDMA that shit was fun. But only a few times. It doesn’t keep working like all drugs. It’s nothing I’d do now-I’m too old but the few times I did it-was fun

Can we get an exact count?😁

Speaking of defiling chalk: I was playing 3c with a friend and after 5 points in 20 min, I told him I was done wasting chalk and I was quitting. He found that amusing.

And daammit. This was the blow pic I wanted to share earlier

I don't think Bob meant that he thinks it was the tip that did it but more like how he played with the odd tip setup he liked. It's like someone that plays good and they are using some beat-up cue with chalk up the ferrule with the shaft with more dings than clean wood and you think "he plays that good with THAT thing?".

No, because some of the chalkings I am pretty sure were done outside of camera view, so if anything, we would have a too low of a count.

Between Earl with his weights and finger thingies, and Rafael's chalking habits, this is probably the most amusing overall match I have seen as far as player habits go. I would probably make a bad commentator because there is no way I would be able to talk about this match without sniggering.

I got to go watch this now!! Again.

I watched this match the other night talking on the phone with Johnny Archer. Fell asleep with 2 -3 racks to go. I need to finish it anyways. We watch old matches and talk about them. It’s pretty fun.

Fun thread!

I've tipped his cue before, he gets an elk master and then puts his cue together and pounds it on the floor for a while to break them in.
