World Straight Pool Updates from New Jersey

Ortmann plays a legal safe. Jasmin in a sticky situation. There are three balls on play, but no simple safe she can do. May take another intentional foul.

The late evening sesison was electirfying.

Hohmann capitalized on a couple of early mistakes form VanDenBerg to grab a lead, but Nick came back strong to pull within 121-100. when Hohmann played a pretty decent safety, Nick took a big gamble on a long combo into the corner, and hit it brilliantly, running 76 off the shot, and running out one inning later to advance to the semis. A European in attendance mentined to me that VanDenBerg also eliminated Hohmann from the European Straight Pool Championships a few weeks ago, so Nick seems to have Thorsten's number in 2008.

In the other match, Ouschan and Ortmann both had some trouble with their breakshots, with misses and times getting stuck, but Jasmin ran the balls far more consistently. when Ortmann badly missed a routine breakshot trailing 185-133, Jasmin ran out for the 200-133 win.

Noteworthiliy, the evening session eliminated the superstrong German contingent from the event, with the Dutch landing two of the fnal four.

So, the semifninals are set.

Jasmin Ouschan vs Francisco Bustamante
Niels Feijen vs Nick VanDenBerg

Bring it on!

Tied for fifth: Thorsten Hohmann, Oliver Ortmann, John Schmidt, Huidji See

Yes. Check out the straight pool forum for a thread I posted today with links to their match on youtube.

Oh hell yeah go Jasmin!

If she can beat Ortmann, she can beat anybody in the field if she plays good and they tighten up for whatever reason.

Still long odds to pull it off, but it would legendary.

In the brief history of this event, Jasmin has beaten Allen Hopkins, Bobby Hunter, Mika Immonen, and Oliver Ortmann. She isn't scared of any of them, despite their overwhelming credentials. I suspect playing the men's Eurotour has toughened her to this point.

With Jasmin facing off against Bustamante, one will face a proven Dutch straight pool star in vanDenBerg or Feijen, and if either wins, it will be one of the most memorable pool moments ever.

You've said it!

For me it allready is. The whole family van den Berg en me where jumping around the whole night nervous and well. The father of Nick is ( next to Nick offcourse) Jasmin's biggest fan.
This is to great and all of them deserve to be there!

Just for the fun of it! Jasmin, Ine and me! Ready to cheer on Line Kjorsvik at the finals of teh EC 2008! Well you showed us Jassie that was only warming up over there in Willingen. You can be proud of your self now. If ever not ;-)

She also beat John Schmidt one of the past years!

Hey, now I am hurt. You forgot me, next to Ine

Does anyone know Jasmin Ouschan's high runs of the tournament? I believe someone said she ran 60 and 53 but don't recall. Does anyone happen to know her high run ever? Just curiouse I guess. Thanks for the help.

I hope Neils wins the whole thing. I played him one time about five years ago and since then, every time we pass each other, he calls me by my name. That's pretty impressive; he really seems like a great guy.

Also, I'm not a fan of Nick VanDenBerg yelling in his opponents' faces when he beats them. I saw him do it a few nights ago to Babica and then I heard he did it again when he beat Thorsten. I don't care how happy you are, you should act like a gentleman. Nobody wants to get beat and have to listen to a primal scream to boot.
