World Sumit in Vegas

updates

How often is the tournament chart updated? I know a lot of matches happened late last night.

Matches

started at 10 am (noon Central time) yesterday, so I assume they will start today at the same time.

Did you notice John Schmidt losing to Alex in the 1st round?

Walter Glass vs. Tony Crosby could be good match (old vs. new)
Same with Jeremy Jones vs. Shaun Wilkie (Where you been hiding JJ?)

The last 3 final matches will be on ESPN Saturday, the 16th.

Robles won 11-3 against James Burt and 11-4 against Hunter Lombardo. Bustamante beat Jeff Kennedy but I don't know the score of that one. Robles and Bustamate play tonight at 6:30. :D

S.D. is certainly well represented! However, Dave Hemmah --although a good player and nice guy-- is not in the same league with the tough players in that field. I'd be surprised if he made the top 16. I've played Dave out in Calif., and I've seen him compete many times. No one takes his game more seriously than does Dave.

Doc

You are mistaken. Over the years Dave has had several top 5 finishes. Including this same event a couple years back at UPA World Summit (Grand Central Station).

Though Dave may not be a favorite to win the event, he by no means should be underestimated and having played all 3 of those South Dakota boys, I think the pecking order to be SVB, Dave Hemmah then Lee Heuwagen. IMHO.

Certainly all three are great players.

Dave gave my wife some lessons when she was out in Long Beach last year and very much improved her game. I had the pleasure of meeting him as well and he is a very nice guy. I only got to see him play a little but from what I saw - very very good. Good luck Dave. Go Shane!

update

shane won his match last night. the score was 11-5 he plays lee at 10:30 central tonight!

Any bets on the Shane v Lee match? I'll take Shane again. Lee must be doing pretty sporty if he can beat Parica.

Front page

has been updated, too many upsets to remember, including Corey getting beat by Oscar Domingez.

Austin Murphy is making his presence felt, and will play Walter Glass, who beat Tony Crosby.

I think that Kiamco will stumble, which would just be 'old news' for the Pool world.

Mika and Alex match could be a good one to watch.

And Shane VB continues to play stellar pool. Manalo got beat, as did Orcullo by Stevie Moore.

Looks like the Filapinos aren't quite so invinvcible as they are touted to be.

Of course, Django is still stroking away on the right side.

You are entitled to your opinion. I don't blame you for being a fan of Hemmah's. I like him too. Dave must have had a good game against Wiseman, beating him 11-5. If he beats Alex, then Dave will be in some kind of money.

I wouldn't imagine anyone underestimates Dave's play. However, having several top 5 finishes "over the years" does not place him in the top player category. In my opinion, he is a very good player, but not a great player. He is a very dedicated player and he'll do well once in awhile.

tough matches on the loser's side of the draw. heavy guns are on a showdown early on. the winner of the Orcullo vs Morris match will face Mika next. Dave Hehmmah will probably face Lee. keep your fingers crossed, there might still be some upsets.

Orcullo advances to play Mika. he's been smokin'. he nil'ed Kutcher and Morris got only two on the board.hope he can sustain it. still no update on the match between Alex P. and the canadian wonder kid Morra.

BVal, the number one world player Parica got eliminated. too bad. lol

They're doing fine. Three out of eight players from the Winners' side are Filipinos while
there's still two on the 1-loss side. Still a pretty good percentage if you ask me...

I would not count the Filipinos out yet. Three out of 8 players in the winner's side (Alex , Bustamante and Kiamco) and 2 excellent players (Orcullo and Manalo) in the loser's side still slugging it out is no mean feat. I still think that one of them will take the title this weekend. Pagulayan and Bustamante are looking strong and invincible in the winners side. Kiamco should not be underestmated. He is also capable of taking it all the way home.

On the other hand, Orcullo just won 2 games against John Kutcher 11 to 0 and then over Rodney Morris 11 to 2. Manalo also has won in convincing fashion against 3 players on the loser's side by scores of 11 to 3 and 11 to 4.
